Geordi nodded to O’Brien as he walked into the transporter room. Life on the Enterprise was always exciting, but there’d been a little too much of that lately, and if it was all the same to you, he thought a couple of days’ leave on Risa sounded like a good idea. Sun, relaxing, and a couple of projects to work on when the relaxing got boring – or when no girls wanted to talk to him.

But that was all too depressing to think about. He was seconds away from Risa! This was a good thing! "See you in a couple days, Chief!" he said, waving as the transporter energized.

Geordi picked up his bag once he rematerialized, and ... hey, this didn’t look like Risa. Come to think of it, this didn’t really look like any planet he’d been on in recent memory. He pressed his comm badge. "La Forge to Enterprise," he tried. Nothing. Typical. He reached into his bag to pull out his tricorder.

It wasn’t quite sure how to treat Mickey … )

Ax had been very relieved to learn from the drone that none of the park's inhabitants were Yeerk-infested, but he wasn't entirely sure what to do next. He wanted to use his time here to learn about humans, but the truth was that there were few he knew.

The first human who came to mind--and a human he had felt comfortable around, as she was close in age to the humans he was used to--was the girl named Veronica. He wasn't sure where she lived, but he found himself walking up and down the main entrance street, hoping to see her.

Apart from a few brief run-ins with humans, most of them unintentional, Ax had largely been avoiding the park's human population. Highly unlikely though it was, he couldn't entirely dismiss the idea that this could all be some type of bizarre Yeerk trap, or that, by chance, some of the human residents were controllers. It was one thing to be surrounded by humans when he had his human friends to rely on for human-related matters, but conversing with humans by himself was seeming less and less wise. Nearly all of them seemed suspicious of him for one reason or another, and if a controller learned that he was an Andalite, much less one of the "Andalite bandits" from Earth, he would almost certainly be killed. On the other hand, spending time with humans here might help him learn how to behave among humans when he returned to his proper time, if only he could be certain that they were not controllers.

He was contemplating this matter when an idea came to him abruptly. There was no guarantee that anything would come of it, but at this point, anything seemed worth trying. He found a piece of paper and carefully began to compose a letter.

Veronica decided that it was best for her sanity to spend as few waking hours in Toon Town (with its incessant music) as possible. She settled on a porch on Main Street USA across from the Penny Arcade to study her Calculus notes. Alternate dimension or no, she was not losing out on the Kane Scholarship.

One morning, a sign appears on the bulletin board.

All aboard!

Who wants to investigate the monorail?

Join me, Skaffen-Amtiskaw, at the monorail station in Tomorrowland
at midday tomorrow.

(Refer to the sundial in Fantasyland if you need help identifying "midday".)

It also sent a letter to Ax, in case the young Andalite missed the notice:

Aximili,

I plan to investigate the monorail tomorrow. Midday. Interested?

At the appointed time, the drone could be found several yards in front of the station, humming to itself and making a flower chain.

Dear Phillip,

We spoke earlier of the possibility of a demonstration of your shape-shifting abilities. I apologise for not having followed up on this sooner. Does the offer still stand? And if so, when would be convenient?

Sincerely,
Fohristiwhirl Skaffen-Amtiskaw Handrahen Dran Easpyou

The Solo children were... unmanageable at the best of times. At the moment they were hanging off the railing of the staircase, threatening to jump. They wanted to see who could float to the ground the slowest when they let go. Well, the twins did. Young Anakin was never quite so foolish - he was sitting in the corner assembling a puzzle set for a child at least six years older than him. So quiet, that boy.

He tried to tell them that their uncle would be most displeased if he knew that they were using their powers in such a frivolous manner, but they never did listen to him. If only Chewbacca were closer at hand. But he was sadly engaged at the moment, which left Threepio in charge all on his own. Sometimes he really did wish that they would let him go with his mistress on the diplomatic missions. He was far better suited to that. And he often did wish that Artoo did not have to stay with Master Luke on Yavin 4, as he could use some company. But each to their duties. They all had their purpose.

He was determined, as always, to do General Solo and Mistress Leia proud.

Going, what do you mean you're going? Going where? )

((Like Artoo, Threepio is taken twelve years after Return of the Jedi. And yes, we're using the phonetic spelling of their names, just like in the books. Because we are dorks. ^_^ Come talk to both of them over here!!!))

Ax had been keeping an eye on this letter-writing process for some time, and while he hadn't the slightest idea why it worked, he was beginning to understand how it was used. The handwriting part presented something of a problem--reading human writing was simple enough, but recreating it turned out to be less so--and he couldn't quite recall the name of his letter's intended recipient, but he decided to try it, regardless.

Ax wasn't sure how he felt about this "Disneyland" situation, but he was rather pleased with his choice of a home. From what he'd seen of this place, it was fairly short on large areas of grass, but he'd managed to find a decent supply that, as it so happened, was next to a small river.

And while he hadn't dismissed the thought of a trap, he had to admit that it was a fairly far-fetched idea. Whether or not there were Yeerks in this place, he was fairly certain that the majority of these humans--and other creatures--could be trusted.

It was nighttime now, and he'd found an out-of-the-way corner of his grassy area where he could demorph without worrying about being seen. It felt good to be back in his real body again, and he was beginning to feel content about the thought of just making himself as comfortable as he could until he found a way to send some sort of distress signal when he made a disturbing realization.

He couldn't tell what time it was.

This may not have seemed like a major problem, except for two things:

  1. Andalites are born with an innate ability to tell time, meaning that something very strange was happening.

  2. If, in fact, time was passing in a non-linear fashion, how could he be sure he didn't accidentally spend over 2 hours in human morph and become trapped?

Andalites are not known for panicking, but in the sense that he began galloping in circles, eyeing the sky worriedly, and morphing/demorphing repeatedly in vain, Ax panicked.

((Open RP-ish thing because I'm not sure what else to do with him. He doesn't have much of a chance at getting away with the "human" thing for too long, anyhow. ;) ))

((This totally happened yesterday. Mostly for Ax.))

Rachel was just hanging out in the central plaza, trying to avoid the inevitable. "Stupid mouse. Why can't he take a hint that isn't delivered via a sledgehammer?" she mutters under her breath.

It's a pretty lucky thing, really, that he was in human morph when it happened. )
