When Fay woke up, he spent a very brief moment wondering why the only breathing he could hear was his own. But then he remembered his location, and with a sigh, patted Fish-san’s head and sat up. He had turned the cushions and towels he had gathered into a kind of nest in one of the café’s upstairs rooms – a kind of back room for workers to rest. It was large enough, and sleeping had been a lot easier than Fay had expected. Maybe it was because he had slept on low beds before in his travels, or maybe he had just been really tired.
He yawned, stretched, and changed into the clothes he had taken the other day. Most of the shirts he had found depicted Mouse-sama, or some thing with three circles he had decided, after careful consideration, was supposed to be a simplification of Mouse-sama’s head. But the material was quite thin, so he wouldn’t boil in this weather (he was much better suited for cold climates.) The only trousers he had managed to find were of some kind of stiff blue material he had seen way back in Hanshin; they were obviously intended for females, but Fay was thinner than most women he had met. They were a bit short, though.
Well, at any rate. No use complaining. Fay was just glad he had managed to find clothes. His search for shoes hadn’t been so successful, but he was perfectly happy to wander around barefoot.
He picked Fish-san up and went down to the actual café. He stood looking at it for a few moments, then slammed his fist into the palm of his other hand and said, “All right, Fish-san! We’ve got work to do!”
The café didn’t need cleaning at all, but Fay used his Rekord shirt to wipe down some of the tables and chairs anyway. A few sparrows took to the air when he stepped outside. Fay let out a soft, “Hyuu~.”
He had found chocolate powder after some more exploration; at least, he assumed it was chocolate powder. It was brown, at any rate. Sometimes being unable to read the majority of forms of writing was difficult.
About an hour and a half later, Fay had made several batches of cookies, some muffins, a large sponge cake, and there were some brownies in one of the large ovens. The kitchen was an absolute mess, too. And he couldn't even blame Mokona ths time.
He sat on one of the tables outside with a muffin in one hand and Fish-san on his lap. “Now,” he told the toy, “we wait for customers.”
((And that’s where you come in! XD))

Date: 2006-11-25 04:41 pm (UTC)"Nice to meet you, Tasslehoff-kun!" he said. "My name's Fay D. Flourite."
He nodded. "Yes. This cafe is now mine. Well, unofficially. I'm running it, at least. Would you like one? The cookies are inside. I can go and get you one if you want."

*Or fifty-eight, deciding which source you're going to use. Most put his birth at 313 AC, but there is one that puts him at 325 AC.

Date: 2006-11-25 04:49 pm (UTC)However, if there was something that could cheer up almost everyone -- or at least make them stop to have another look -- it was a grown-up man wearing too small clothes, sitting on a table with a stuffed fish.
"Good morning, Fay-san," he said. "Have you found yourself a new friend?" He nods towards Fish-san. Having made himself a maid out of plants, he hardly can criticize other people's choice of company.

Date: 2006-11-25 04:55 pm (UTC)He held Fish-san up, the stuffed toy on both his hands like some kind of offering. "Mmm-hmm!" he answered. "He's very good company. Fish-san isn't ever mean and he loves hugs." Fay illustrated the point by squeezing Fish-san close. "Which is a very good quality for a friend to have, especially when I'm lonely or have a bad dream."
no subject
Date: 2006-11-25 05:09 pm (UTC)"I'm glad to see you, too, Fay-san," he said, and meant it for the aforementioned reason.
He almost-smiled at the man's enthusiasm with his fish. "I wish I had somebody like that, too," he said. "Somebody who is there all the time. Of course there are Doll and Katou, but they both have their own lives -- Katou especially, I hardly ever see him nowadays -- and I sometimes find myself being lonely." It wasn't as bad as it had been back in Hades, but it was bad enough.
"Do you think there are other available huggable friends around here? And if there are, where could I get one?" Those who might think it was strange for a seven-foot-tall man carrying around a giant scythe to seriously consider getting himself a stuffed animal for company should also consider the fact that the said man was far too much interested in pretty flowers and all things small and fluffy -- or scaly, or slimy, or just about anything living and non-humanoid, really -- to be your average badass warrior.
"And what is this smell?"

Date: 2006-11-25 05:16 pm (UTC)He put Fish-san on his shoulder, holding the toy in place with one hand. "If you're lonely, you can always come and visit me," Fay said sincerely. Any company will do. "Or you could bring Katou-kun here for a bit of time together.
"I found Fish-san in one of the shops on Main Street," he said. "There were lots of them. Not just ones like Fish-san, but other animals too. There were lots and lots of them.
"Ah, the smell?" He grinned. "I've been baking. There are some brownies in the oven right now, but there are cookies and muffins and a cake all ready to be eaten. Want some?"
no subject
Date: 2006-11-25 05:19 pm (UTC)"I would love some," he then said. "I've been living mostly on fruit, myself. They are so easy to grow."

Date: 2006-11-25 09:29 pm (UTC)"Well, hello," he said, leaning down to talk to the new girl. He laughed at the thing about cat's eyes. "Or cats, unfortunately. But I was called Big Kitty for a while." He tapped under his left eye and smiled. "So does this count as a cat's eye?
"What's your name? I'm Fay. I run this cafe."

Date: 2006-11-26 07:32 am (UTC)She turned her head to the side and examined Fay. "I don't know how to count to cat's eye. But I can count to a lot of things. I can count higher than anyone I think except maybe my brother and sister."

Date: 2006-11-26 01:31 pm (UTC)"Would you like something to eat, Del-chan? I've got cookies and muffins and a cake and brownies in the oven. Oops." He stood up straight, expression almost bordering on panic. "The brownies. I will be right back, Del-chan."
He dashed inside. Okay, so the edges were a little burnt, but he could cut those off. With a slightly wry smile, he held Fish-san up to his eyes and said, "I really am an idiot, aren't I?"
He returned to Del, looking a bit sheepish. "Umm. Yes. Brownies and cookies and muffins and cake. Want any?"

Date: 2006-11-26 04:57 pm (UTC)At any rate, he was up early (for him) this morning, and exploring the Park, looking for a cafe that served coffee (preferrably alcoholic), when he smelled baking, took a look around, and realized he was right across from The Cat's Eyes. And he'd promised to stop by and see Fay's restaurant.
Inside, Fay was very busy, chatting with other customers, and serving up muffins and things (and looking adorable in a Mickey Mouse t-shirt and slim-fitting jeans at the same time), so Pegasus found himself a seat by a sunny window and waited to be noticed.
no subject
Date: 2006-11-26 06:06 pm (UTC)He let himself pause for a moment, smiled at Fish-san, and noticed Pegasus.
"Pegasus!" he crowed, and ran forward to glomp him. "How are you? I'm so glad you came!"
no subject
Date: 2006-11-26 11:24 pm (UTC)Of course restaurant-hosts didn't normally wear t-shirts, or go around with odd pet-creatures for that matter; Fay was Fay, and you didn't have to know him for very long to realize what that meant. "How could I possibly resist it," Pegasus asked, laughing, "when the entire park smells of whatever it is you're baking?"
He entangled himself, only to save his balance. "Do tell me you've got brownies here?"
no subject
Date: 2006-11-27 08:38 pm (UTC)He grinned. "Of course I've got brownies! Do you want one? Free, of course."

Date: 2006-11-27 09:10 pm (UTC)"They've got walnuts, don't they," he said in a hungry tone, "I can smell them. I would love one, Fay."
