Once again, in the middle of the night, decorations begin to unfurl throughout the park. In minutes the place was awash in red, white, and blue bunting, balloons, streamers, banners, flags, flowers, and all the Independence Day trappings.

Patriotism is in the air at Disneyland.

Cayce stood in the middle of Main Street, taking in the sight.

"You know," she said out loud to no one in particular, "for some reason, I'd feel a lot better about this if the park commemorated other national holidays. Bastille Day. Canada Day. Cinco de Mayo. National Foundation Day ..."

"But there's nothin' more American than Disneyland," came a young Englishman's voice from not far behind her.

"Oh, hey, Adam," Cayce said. "Yeah, that's true. But I wonder what they do in Tokyo Disneyland or Euro Disney?"

"Dunno," he shrugged. "I've never been. It's still kinda American, though, I think. 'Cos their Main Street isn't like an old-fashioned Japanese Main Street or a French Main Street, right?"

"Yeah. For that, you gotta go to Epcot Center." She grinned wryly. "Ah, it's probably just a sort of vague liberal American guilt on my part."

"Prob'ly," laughed Adam. "But we could have a multi-cultural celebration, couldn't we? Jus' for fun? With a bonfire an' kimonos an' kites an' whatever all else people do in summer..."

Cayce's eyes lit up. "That," she said, "is a terrific idea. Of course, that does raise the question of where we'd get some of the trappings. There's only so much we can do with the Disney Princess stuff in the shops."

The boy grinned. "Oh, I expect you could find a lot of dif'rent stuff around if you wanted to. There's a whole Indian village by my house in Frontierland, f'r instance."

"That's true. And we might be able to do something with stuff from It's a Small World, if anyone can tolerate the song long enough to make it in there."

"Oh, I 'spect someone could for a quarter of an hour or so," Adam teased. "There's party stuff in the Winnie the Pooh ride, too, I think. It bein' Pooh's birthday an' all."

"Y'know, Adam," Cayce said with a laugh, "I think I've got a party to plan."

"Write me if you need any help," he waved happily.
