Fay’s whistle isn’t a particularly beautiful one. It sounds almost inhuman; some kind of tune mortals could never have invented, shrill and sweet and at the same time quite deep. Kurogane and Syaoran look around almost with panic as the blue globe forms around them.
“Mokona, move us to the next dimension,” Fay says calmly. He knows they’re safe inside the sphere, although for how long he isn’t sure. Best to move quickly.
“But, my magic…” Mokona protests. The poor thing looks so dejected!
Fay looks at the ceiling of the dome he’s constructed around them. Nothing can reach them here. “It should be fine inside here,” he says, with that ever-present smile.
Mokona’s wings open and the little white creature opens its mouth. “I can summon my magic!” it squeals.
Fay feels that now-familiar sensation of changing worlds. Light wrapping around him, that feeling of coming undone, being pulled into the passageway, the no-place between…
Hyuu~, Kuro-pii and Syaoran-kun look so suspicious!
He closes his bright blue eyes and lets himself drift. Mokona knows where they’re going.
So Fay is rather surprised when he’s deposited on the ground alone. He opens his eyes and looks around, almost panicking, definitely worried. He frowns.
“Mokona?” he calls. “Kuro-rin? Sakura-chan? Syaoran-kun?”
They’re not here. That’s odd. They’ve only been separated once before, back in Shara. He smirks at the memories of the battle camps of Yama. Aah, Kuro-tan had to admit my company wasn’t so bad! We couldn’t understand each other verbally, but still…
Fay purses his lips and scratches his head. Hmm. This is a puzzler. What could have happened? Has he landed in a different world to the others? No, definitely not. The whole idea is that they travel together. They’re probably close by, he just can’t see them. Everything will be alright.
He stretches and stands up. Fay D. Flourite: blonde hair that had probably been styled once but has long since forgotten what that style was, sapphire blue eyes, pale skin, wearing a brown suit complete with bowtie. Long limbed and slim, regarding everything with a faint smile, and possessing a fairly… well, effeminate air. (Let’s face it: it’s a wonder his hand hasn’t dropped off yet considering how limp his wrist is.)
He notices Mickey and waves cheerfully. “Konnichiwa!” Fay says brightly. “I don’t suppose you’ve seen three people and a white creature pass this way? A young girl with brown hair and green eyes, a young boy with darker hair and amber eyes, and a tall grumpy-looking man with black hair and red eyes? Answers to the name of ‘Kurogane’, reward if you find him!”
Mickey coughs theatrically. "'What is your name?'"
There’s a brief moment of puzzlement, but the smile is never far away. “Fay D. Flourite,” Fay answers. “What’s yours, Mouse-sama?”
"What is your quest?" asks the Cat. It's perched, suddenly, on the roof of one of the gate-stiles.
Fay glances at the Cat and doesn’t appear to see anything out of the ordinary. After all, Fay has seen many creatures, both in his home world of Celes and travelling with his friends.
“I’m writing a novel,” Fay answers without hesitation. It’s a useful lie. Clever Syaoran-kun for thinking of it! “It’s about legends and myths. Has anything strange happened here, recently or in the past?”
Fay might be on his own, but that doesn’t mean he can’t look for Sakura-chan’s feathers. That’ll be a nice surprise for his friends: all panicked about losing their Fay-san, bursting in (Kurogane with his sword, hyuu~), and seeing the wizard smiling calmly and holding the feather. Hopefully in new clothes. Fay’s beginning to get tired of this suit.
"'What is the average w..?'" Mickey frowns down at the notebook. "You know, I don't really see why that's important." He flips a page. "'If you could be granted three wishes, what would they be?'"
Fay chuckles. “Oh, I understand. You ask all the questions, ne?” He pouts playfully. “I hope you’ll return the favour, Mouse-sama and Cat-sama!”
Wishes, eh? Ha, where to begin? He has so many. None he’ll admit to, of course – they’re mostly regarding his past, and if he makes them he’ll have to explain why, and there’s a story he doesn’t want to recount.
“No wishes for me!” he concludes cheerily. “I have everything I want! Besides,” he adds, looking a little more serious (but still smiling), “wishes don’t come for free.” If they did, Dimensional Witch-san would be out of business.
"Or," the Cat says, examining its tail with interest, "if you were a genie and someone you were trying to give three wishes to was trying to trick you into giving him more, what would you say?"
“I can’t do magic,” Fay answers simply. He laces his hands together and stretches again. It’s easier than saying he can and then having to explain why he won’t.
Mickey looks rather nonplused at the next, but reads, "'When the revolution comes, what skills will you be able to barter for food?'"
“Well,” Fay says, finger on his chin in thought, “Fay-san owned a café once. And Fay-san can be very useful when you need him to be. And of course,” a face-splitting grin, “I’m excellent company.” Make of that what you will.
The Cat rolls its eyes in a friendly (and rather disconcertingly out-of-sync) way, and asks, "Milk, dark, or white chocolate?"
Fay claps his hands together gleefully. “Chocolate!” he giggles. “Oh, milk! Or hot chocolate! Does hot chocolate count? Then again, dark chocolate is best for baking… Oh, this question’s too hard!”
"'Choose the two coolest: robots, pirates, fairies, bears, ninjas, monkeys, vampires, or humans,'" says Mickey, giggling a bit as he goes through the list. "'Explain.'"
“NINJAS!” Fay squeals. “Because Kuro-pon is one and ninjas are so cool and Kuro-rin is so grea~t.” He pauses and blushes slightly. “Ninjas. And I’m not sure about the other. Fairies?” He winks and stands with his hand on his hip. “You can guess why.”
"Great!" Mickey flips through the blank pages of the notebook at top, cartoon-y speed. "Well, I think that's just about it! Oh, and I'm supposed to ask, 'for your safety: are you carrying anything sharp?'"
“Ne! I’m hurt.” Again with the pout, as if Fay’s the most innocent person in the world and has just been accused unjustly of something really quite terrible. “Mouse-sama, you’re so mean to me! I’d never carry anything sharp! That’s what Kurogane’s for.”
Which is when Fay turns away, cups his hands around his mouth, and shouts, as loud as he can, “KURO-PUU, WHERE ARE YOU?”
((Thegay magician Fay D. Flourite, of CLAMP’s Tsubasa RESEVoir CHRoNICLES. Taken right after the end of chapitre 106, if anyone’s interested. Before the whole business in Tokyo. This is manga!Fay, not anime!Fay who looks different in practically every single shot. And hyuu~ is the noise Fay makes instead of whistling, as whistling for him means he performs magic. But apparently it’s not the kind of magic he usually uses, so that makes it okay. *doubts Fay’s logic herself*))
“Mokona, move us to the next dimension,” Fay says calmly. He knows they’re safe inside the sphere, although for how long he isn’t sure. Best to move quickly.

Date: 2006-11-09 09:42 pm (UTC)He scratches his head. "Does faggo mean blonde? Or cheerful? I'm very cheerful! See how cheerful I am!" And he grins widely in the way that annoys Kurogane so much and does an odd little twirl. Because he can and it is so much easier being the clown.

Date: 2006-11-09 09:43 pm (UTC)He then takes a serious glance around. "You are asking about strange events? Well, how about this? Several people have arrived, without knowing any cause or reason, into something resembling an abandoned amusement park. Some were somehow misled during a magical, technological, or otherwise committed transportation, while some simply glanced up and found themselves in a place different from that they had last been in. None of them have any idea how they have arrived, nor do they know how to leave. Only one has ever left -- well, assumed to have left; nobody knows what really happened to her. And now, to make this even more stranger and hopefully more interesting to you -- you are now one of those people."
He almost smiles, looking down at the other man, who is like a negative image of him -- fair and light instead of black and dark. "Does that answer your question in any way?"

Date: 2006-11-09 09:51 pm (UTC)Fay's only really asking because annoying Kurogane has become a habit he can't break. And anyway, if the ninja does turn up (which he really should do) he will be able to see Fay is the same as ever.
The mage listens to the newcomer's explanation with interest. "All from different places, hmm? Can you tell me if someone with dark hair and who is blind in one eye has arrived? Or a man with glasses calling himself Dr Kyle?" Yes, Fay does have some idea, he's not half as stupid as he likes people to think he is. All ready he's thinking of possibilities: maybe it's a virtual world, like Outo? In which case his companions could be somewhere else. He wonders if they can watch and smiles skywards to let them know he's fine.
"Thank you, yes," he says, turning back to the tall man. Tall and dark. Give him red eyes and a foul temper and it could almost be his own Kurogane-san. Almost. If you used your imagination. "One more question." He smiles. "Where am I and what's your name? Oops, that's two questions. Silly me!"
no subject
Date: 2006-11-09 10:09 pm (UTC)He thinks for a moment, then shakes his head. "No, I haven't seen anybody fitting those describtions. I have to admit, though, that I am yet to meet even most inhabitants of the park, so I cannot tell for sure."
He raises an eyebrow. Something in the man reminds him very much of Doll. Another part, however, reminds him of himself. A mask, although one very different from the one he preferred, and probably much less literal one, is used here, too.
"You are in an amusement park," he replies. "Or a prison, should you prefer that term. Some here tell me it is modelled after the Disney Land, but either this is not the real one or I would definitely like a word with the park's management about appropriate treatment of customers. And my name," he says, as though not remembering the question until then, "is Uriel."

Date: 2006-11-09 10:03 pm (UTC)Fay leans down to talk to her and smiles pleasantly. "Can you remember," he says, as if talking to a young child, "if any of them were called Sakura, Syaoran, Kurogane, or Mokona? Sakura-chan has big green eyes and is a girl, Syaoran is about this tall with amber eyes and brown hair, and Kurogane is this tall," Fay makes an exaggerated guess at the ninja's height, "with black hair and red eyes. And Mokona," he leans down again, "is a cute little white creature with long ears and a red stone on his head. Have you seen anyone like that?"
He smiles again. This girl looks so sweet.

Rukia shakes her head. "No, I haven't," she says, making her eyes a little wider than necessary. "I don't make it to all the arrivals, so I can't say for sure. But I haven't seen anyone like that walking around. I'm sorry..."

Date: 2006-11-10 06:10 am (UTC)Eventually, he perks up with, "You know, I can't quite put my finger on it. But yeah...Katou's right." Not that it meant much. Setsuna was okay with Kira liking guys -- especially since that didn't seem to extend far -- and Katou liking guys, but Fay is just so...well, gay. At least he's cheerful.
"But I guess I can live with it, as you're a definite nice change over Hannibal. That guy was just plain creepy. Compared to him, I can be grateful you're probably nice," Setsuna explains, for once not finding questions to ask. For now.

He looks mock-insulted. "Probably nice? Ne, that's mean! I'm very nice!" He is sorely tempted to hug the boy, to prove how nice he is, but that may not be a great introduction. (Fay is quite picky about the people he annoys.) He opts for merely grinning in the nicest way he can.

Date: 2006-11-10 08:38 pm (UTC)Setsuna says, "And Katou's right about you being obviously gay," while turning one hand, then slipping it into his hair.
"And how do I know you're really nice and not just faking it? I've never seen anyone able to smile so much and not get angry in the slightest, especially while dealing with Katou. I figure, if you are really nice, I'll know later, for certain," Setsuna attempts to explain himself, which isn't something he excells at, then offers out his hand, as he was taught by someone else, "And if you're gonna be here a while, might as well introduce myself. I'm Mudou Setsuna, Flourite."

"It was the Cat's Eyes Cafe," he answers. "Just a small business I ran with Sakura-chan. We mostly served cake and tea, little snacks. Are you a chef, miss?"
Maybe Fay can be a chef who is writing a novel in his spare time. Yes, that might work. It would also explain how he's so good at it - the real reason, that it reminds him of mixing potions, will not do.
