There was an announcement on the bulletin board.

Harvey smiled as he admired his handiwork. It'd been too long since he'd gotten out to see John's friends.

John glared from behind bars. "What the hell are you doing?" he bellowed.

"I'm making an effort to meet these nice people. After all, it doesn't do to stay cooped up in your head all day. It's unhealthy. Liable to make me a sociopath." Harvey grinned unnervingly. "And we wouldn't want that, would we?"

((As threatened, Harvey wants to party. Heh. It rhymes. Use the thread below for discussion, partying, what-not. Meet John! Meet Harvey! Meet both in the same sentence!

Also, apologies for not being around more -- both Real Emo Life and school have been kicking my ass something fierce.))

"It is not," Leon mutters. "The fact that he is a serial killer has nothing to do with me stopping underage kids from drinking."

"I'm sure it doesn't," Kohaku said soothingly, or at least it would have been soothing but for the undercurrent of laughter it carried, "But, for example, would you try to stop me from drinking alcohol?"

He does look like a fourteen/fifteen year-old boy, after all.

Leon frowns. "D says you're the guardian of some river, so I'm going to assume that means you're more than twenty-one. Probably not." He paused. "Do you even drink though? D says it's a disgusting habit. You don't share his viewpoint?"

"Not enough to get actually drunk," Kohaku admits. The sight of a drunk dragon is not something you would want in your strangest dreams. "But I do like the taste occasionally, as variety."

He smiled, a little bitterly. "But I look like a child. Doesn't it stand to reason that there are others here that look much younger then they actually are?"

"Did you see the attitude he was giving me? That right there is 100% human teenager."

"How can you tell?" Yes, Detective, and I haven't giving you 'attitude' at all He's geniunely interested. This human could easily have hidden powers - he obviously knew D well enough to know the kami for what he was, and seemed to take the supernatural for granted.

"Because I've had to deal with teenagers all my adult life, and I used to be a teenager myself. It's not hard to tell." The attitude that Kohaku was giving Leon was completely different than the one Logan had been giving him. Kohaku's was more like D's, only less elegant.

"I see." He did, sort of. "And you never committed similar misdemenors in your youth?"

"All the time," Leon said. "But what I did as a youth isn't supposed to effect how I do my job. Besides, it wasn't like I ever did anything really bad. You're not allowed to be a cop if you have a criminal record."

"Ah, I see. So had you gotten caught you wouldn't have been allowed to fufill your career of choice?" The young dragon nodded. That seemed logical enough - it would be interesting to see the human talk out of that.

"It wasn't that I had never gotten caught," Leon said, narrowing his eyes. "It's that I didn't do anything that was very bad. I drank a couple of times when I was younger, but that's about as far as it went. My father was a cop, I wouldn't have been able to get away with anything even if I tried."

"Yet you still were allowed to drink occasionally." Green eyes narrow to malachite slits in return.

"Yes, but I'm a cop now, and I can't let my own personal experiences get in the way of doing my job." He paused. "Besides, when my dad found out, he beat me so hard that I couldn't get out of bed the next morning."

His father hadn't been abusive, he just relied a lot on corporal punishment. He had never dished out more than Leon could handle, and never dished out more than what the crime called for. That particular time happened to be the fifth time in two months that he had come home drunk (and on a school night, no less), despite the other minor slaps and warnings.

"Why ever not?" Kohaku said pleasantly, then at Leon's second statement, his whole face darkened and seemed a whole lot more draconic. "There is no excuse for beating children."

"Because that's what bad cops do," Leon muttered. Sure, sometimes he acted like personal feelings had interfered with how he did his job where Count D was concerned, with the exception of constantly trying to arrest him and the fact that we went to go visit him while he was on duty, he never actually let what he was saying stop what he should be doing.

"He wasn't beating me, really," Leon said. "I mean, it wasn't abuse. It was him teaching me a lesson. I didn't learn any other way, and I woulda been a real brat if it weren't for him. He was a good person."
