Once Mickey gave the okay for D to leave, Leon took his hand in his and began taking him back to D's place, feeling a lot lighter than he had felt in a long, long time. He probably walked a little slower than usual just to drink in the fact that D was there again, with him, but only a little bit slower.

He got to D's place in what seemed like far too short a time. "So," he said. "Would you like me to write Carrot now?" he asked D, not letting go of his hand yet.

"I would offer to make tea while you do, but you will have to accompany me for that." D didn't seem very upset about the point anymore, luckily, and from the quirk to his smile perhaps even amused by it. "I don't mind, Detective."

"Well, I'm right handed," said Leon. "I could just write the letter near you while you make the tea, and hold out my arm while you do whatever," he said, but given how little he didn't want to have to let go of D's hand, he was really hoping that D would say that that was okay.

D chuckled a little at the mental image. Really now, this might not be entirely bad. Leon had been rather accomadating since they'd stopped fighting. "Whatever you like."

Well, Leon did miss D's tea, and he would have plenty of time to do whatever he wanted hold D's hand...

"I guess I could do with some tea..." he muttered.

"Then we'll find something for you to write with," D said, smiling. Strange, he wanted a cup of tea rather badly, too. Apparently he really had been gone for some time. He also thought that burning a little bit of incense wouldn't hurt.

Leon nodded. "Shouldn't be too hard," he said, and then dropped D's hand. "I think I left some here." He'd frequently come back here to write notes about something, hoping that D would someday just walk back into the store.

D arched an eyebrow at him. "Left some?" He felt a bit relieved when Leon dropped his hand--it was odd, but he also almost wished he hadn't. Well.

"Yeah," Leon said. "None with writing on them, but I sometimes stopped by here to do some work," he said, as though it had been completely casual and he had just done it because it was convenient. It only took him a moment to find his papers and his pen. "Found 'em," he said.

"Did you, now." From D's smile and his own sweet tone it was clear he believed the tone to Leon's voice not at all. "Ah. Then please, come this way..." He gestured elegantly towards the back room with his free hand, like this really was his shop, the same shop from years ago, and there was something more spectacular in the back room than a kitchen and glorified bedroom/storage space.

Leon couldn't help but grin at D's manner, but didn't say anything. After all, making a joke about having a dragon in the back brought back strong feelings of nostalgia for Leon just thinking about it, and he was half-sure that it might upset D.

It may have, but to be brutally honest, it wasn't as if D ever forgot. On the contrary, especially in moment when he felt unsettled, off balance, unsure--today was proving to be a fine example, he often wished for the company of Tet-chan, or Pon-chan, or any one of his animals. Even if they did not understand, even if he did not agree with their advice, they would at least be there.

D walked with Leon into the back room, crossing over to his tea things and walking to the stove, gesturing to a spot nearby where Leon could work. "That should be close enough, I believe."

If there was anything about the shop that Leon didn't miss, it was Tet-chan. The last piece of advice D needed right now was to 'just eat Leon.'

"Yeah," said Leon, and he sat down, pen and paper in hand. Then, he held out his arm so D would be able to move around.

Well, actually

D smiled to himself, setting about making the tea. He worked carefully, so as not to jar Leon and interrupt his writing, glancing over on occasion. It really was strangely adorable of him.

Carrot, wrote Leon.

D came back, so I hand cuffed him to me. I also happened to throw the key in the moat, and as we're cuffed together, I can't really go get it myself. Do you think you could get it for me?

Also, I think I have a lead on more park business. When you bring back the key, we can discuss it.

He glanced over to make sure that D wasn't looking at him, and upon seeing that he wasn't, he quickly scrawled:

Feel free to do it tomorrow. Or whatever day you happen to have some free time. There's no rush.

Then, he folded the letter and stuck it in his pocket.

"I'm done," he said, smiling up at D.

"That was fast." The water had just started to boil, and he took the kettle off, smiling back at the policeman. "It was much less difficult than I expected. Thank you, officer."

"It was just a short letter," he said. He grinned at the semi-praise. "No problem. It's not that hard to stick out my arm, you know."

"I'm happy it didn't inconvenience you." D poured the hot water, letting the leaves steep. "Almost ready. Would you like anything with your tea?"

"Steak," answered Leon, grinning at D. "A big, juicy one. Maybe with a side of ribs."

D huffed. "Brute," he said, meaning it probably about as much as Leon meant what he'd said.

Leon laughed. "Well, if you don't have it, I guess I'm fine with my tea," said Leon, sipping on it.

"Really, now," D murmured in affectionate exasperation, sipping his own tea. He closed his eyes, enjoying the taste and the warmth.

The tea was the best that Leon had ever tasted, but he stopped sipping on it to watch D sip on his. He had known he was in love with D since D had made him think about why he had travelled all over the world for two years to find him, but he hadn't realized how much until D had gone missing and then returned, so he wanted to drink in as much of D as he could now. He drank some more of his tea, opened his mouth, and then closed it again. He hadn't felt this way about anyone since his cactus.

Considering, the lacke of Cuffs betweene us, it would be Best for me to retreive them rite away.

Incidentally D is not the only Recent Return. More once I return the Keys.

Even if he didn't say in his letter, Carrot really was pleased for Leon, and would show it by waiting until the next day to deliver the key.

It wasn't until the next afternoon that Carrot came by with the keys to the handcuffs and knocked on the door.

Leon was sitting at the table, with D close by for obvious reasons, eating lunch. He finished what sounded like a tirade against women who mutliated their boyfriends when Carrot walked in, and he grinned and waved at him, wearing his ripped tee-shirt.
