Eat Me, Drink Me

Scattered around the park are four smallish glass bottles filled with a mysterious liquid (tasting deliciously of cherry tart, custard, pinapple, roast turkey, toffy, and hot buttered toast). A paper label is attached to each, with the words "DRINK ME" beautifully printed on it in large letters.

Scattered elsewhere are four little glass boxes, containing small cakes on which the words "EAT ME" are beautifully marked in currants.

Neither is marked "poison," which is sensible since neither are poisonous. However, the Surgeon General, were he here, would probably be a little put out that other effects aren't warned about on the packaging.

((The bottles (in Frontierland, Tomorrowland, New Orleans Square, and Toon Town) make you shrink, the cakes (in Main Street, Fantasyland, Adventureland, and Critter Country) make you grow. Have fun!))

"Yeah, but -- Setsuna, you're like ten inches tall," Cayce blurted. She looked at Kira for confirmation. "You're seeing what I'm seeing, right?"

Too busy humming and blissed out, Setsuna let Kira pick him up without comment, but once he was placed in the jacket pocket the blond muttered, "This illusion is gettin' a bit too detailed."

Then he realized he couldn't see Cayce too well and called out, "Bye-bye Cayce. Thank-ya for not steppin' on me." That said, he hiccuped again, then curled up in Kira's pocket and closed his eyes, this time humming Wanted Dead or Alive against the lining of Kira's jacket, warm and toasty.

Cayce rubbed her forehead, bewildered. "Kira ... let me know if you need any help with him, okay?" Not that she had any idea of what you'd do to reverse whatever-it-was that Setsuna drank. "I'm going to go explore and see if I can find out more about all this."

"No problem. Although -- if the curse reverses itself, I hope he's not in your pocket." She grinned.

"Let's see, he was coming from this way ..." She retraced Setsuna's steps as best she could and was rewarded with the sight of the DRINK ME bottle on the counter of a shop.

"'DRINK ME'. What does that remind me of?" She frowned.

"Well ... assuming that this is the stuff that shrunk him, I'm going to vote 'not'. However, I am going to stick it in my pocket in case we need it later." She suited the action to the word, and was only slightly nonplussed to see a fresh bottle replacing the one in her pocket. Typical.

"Gah. This is making me nuts; I know I know this from somewhere." She sighed. "Let's go over to Main Street and poke around and see if there are other bottles. Maybe that'll be a clue."

Cayce pondered the matter as she walked. "Well, if they're a permanent fixture, at least we can post something to tell people to stay the hell away from them," she said. "The idea of the stuff reversing its own effects did occur to me ... but I'd sure hate to be wrong."

They turned down Main Street. "Sounds like a kid's book of some kind," she said. "Fairy tale, maybe? Goddamn that sounds familiar."

Cayce stopped and stared at the cake for a moment, trying to assimilate what she was seeing and also trying to figure out why someone had put out a cake with a rude insult on it --

-- when finally the penny dropped with a clank. "Alice in Wonderland. Fuck me. Of course. Goddammit, if only Alice were still here, she'd have pegged it instantly."

[caycep]

"I think so? I hope so." She peered at Kira's pocket, trying to get a glimpse of Setsuna within. "Maybe you can take it with you and try feeding it to him when he, um, wakes up."

Cayce handed him the cake. "Good luck. Let me know how it turns out, okay? I'm going to go walk around and see if anything else is going on and if anyone else has been zapped."
