Thanks for letting us know. I've been meaning to contact you, but ~~you kinda intimidate me~~ I keep getting sidetracked.

Carrot waited for Leon to arrive outside John Adam's office before going in-- if Leon was to be Commander, then he would have to be there with Carrot, and Carrot thought Leon being Commander was important. On the other hand, it was in his nature to be ridiculously prompt.

Leon arrived a few minutes after Carrot. He was relieved to see Carrot there, as he liked having Carrot's input on things. Carrot had a knack for making everyone relatively happy, and he was much better at talking to people than Leon would ever be.

"Hey," he said. "Been waiting long?"

"Not at all," Carrot replied, cheerfully knocking on John Adam's door. "I only just arrived."

Hearing a faint knock, John looked up from his desk. Susan would have walked right in, so he assumed it must be the representatives from the police force with whom he'd been corresponding.

His office was pretty far from the main door of the Opera House and behind a big glass window, but he wasn't accounted the loudest man in Congress for nothing.

"COME IN!"

Leon blinked when he heard Adams call "Come in," but didn't hesitate more than a second before he opened the door and led the way inside.

By the time they had reached the main lobby, John had gone out the side door, down the corridor, and around the corner. It wasn't convenient - he'd much rather have a door than the bank of windows in the lobby - but he couldn't have asked for a better office, so he made do.

With a polite bow, he greeted them. "Welcome, gentlemen."

Leon bowed back, looking exactly like what he was - a man who was nervous but trying very hard to hide it, and had probably only bowed once in his life by accident.

"Hello," he said. "Good to see you again. This is Captain Carrot, I'm not sure if you've met." He realized, with embarrassment, that John probably didn't even remember ever meeting him.

"And you, sir. Thank you for your information regarding Independence Day."

Trying to convey an apology with his eyes and a promise that he'd behave this time, John looked up at Carrot. "The good Captain and I have met, yes. Good morning, sir. Would you both like to step into my office?"

Carrot responded with a good-natured smile at John Adams to indicate that their previous encounter was all but forgotten. Although Carrot didn't like to be accused of immorality, he could certainly understand a misunderstanding.

"I'd be happy to do so, Mr. Adams," he replied.

Feeling faintly relieved, John led the way back to his office. Once he was settled behind his desk, fingers steepled, and Leon and Carrot had taken the two chairs in front, he began.

"Gentlemen, as I mentioned in my letter, some of the citizens of Disneyland have concerns about the police force you're setting up. I intend to have a town meeting to discuss the matter amongst all interested parties, but in the interests of equality, I am notifying you in advance so you have time to prepare your arguments and aren't blindsided when the time comes. As the unbiased moderator in the case, I have every wish that the process be transparent. I am fully at your disposal for questions, advice, or assistance."

It wasn't entirely true that he was unbiased in the matter, but it was foolish to have opinions before all the facts are known. John may have been loud and opinionated and obnoxious, but he knew how to be professional, too.

"Was it Little Miss Sunshine?" Leon asked, and promptly closed his mouth because he knew that Carrot really was better at handling people than he was and if anyone could get people convinced that it was a good idea, it was Carrot.

"I fail to see how it signifies who the party in question is," John replied a little frostily. "But suffice it to say, though one person did indeed draw my attention to the matter, that person is not the only one concerned."

Carrot gave Leon a look, trying to mentally tell him not to be antagonistic. But Leon was a bit like Vimes in that he didn't seem to care who got angry with him, so there probably was little point.

"We appreciate it, sir," Carrot said. "We certainly don't want anyone to be concerned about what we're doing. Our only intentions are for the good of everyone here, but obviously the idea of people setting up a police force without any regulation would be cause for concern. I'm very glad to hear we'll be having a town meeting about it."
