Letter from John Adams to Crowley:
Dear Sir:
I have been given to Understand that you are the sole possessor of alcoholic beverages in this Place. As such, you are within your Rights in a Free Market Economy to charge what you will for distributing them and I should like to inquire as to your Fee for one bottle of champagne. I have no money readily available, but I have been an Attorney for twenty years and any Services I may render, I should be glad to do so.
Your servant,
J. Adams
Letter from Crowley to John Adams:
Mr. Adams,
I do indeed have champagne at my disposal, as well as everything else I presently need or want, so I'm afraid I have no need of your services at the moment. Therefore, my price for the bottle is only that you satisfy my idle curiosity. What are you celebrating?
-Crowley
Letter from John Adams to Crowley:
Dear Sir:
If satisfying your curiosity is the Price I must pay, then it is the Price I must pay, though I must trust in your Honor as a Gentleman not to disclose what is a delicate matter. The drink is not for my sole Gratification, nor to celebrate any particular Event, but is intended to entertain a Lady.
Your servant,
J. Adams
Package from Crowley to John Adams consisting of two champagne glasses and a bottle of champagne with a card tied around its neck:
Give Susan a flourish for me. -Crowley
If handwriting can convey snarky, suggestive laughter, this handwriting does. John flushes to the roots of his hair, but puts the bottle away in the small white box that keeps things cold with a faint smile.
Letter from John Adams to Fay D. Flourite:
Dear Sir:
I have been given to Understand that you have been providing specialty foods to the people of this Place and I should like to inquire as to the Availability of such. I am, in particular, looking for simple picnic Fare appropriate to entertain a Lady in a romantic setting. I have no money readily available, but I have been an Attorney for twenty years and any Services I may render, I should be glad to do so.
Your servant,
J. Adams

Date: 2007-04-19 07:44 pm (UTC)Fortunately for Fay, Sirius chose that moment to come by, holding the magical activity map within his hands. Without pausing to see if Fay or any of the other occupants of the cafe were in fact busy with anything (it just wasn't Sirius' style), he burst through the doors and said “Oi, Fay, come look at this weird reading I have down near the Pirate's ride, tell me if you can make sense of it.”
The blonde looked up at Sirius’ interruption, giving him a welcoming smile automatically. “Oh, sure!” He crossed over to him, still keeping hold of the letter, to get a better look at the map. “What’s the problem~?”
Sirius showed him the map, laying it out on the table. “Well, I've got this really odd blue reading that seems to change all the time, that's bad enough, but then I keep getting weird readings from elsewhere in the area, too.” He pointed to a strange yellow reading somewhere in that area. “It shows up as yellow because that was the nearest estimate, but look--” he waved his wand and a bunch of strange and vaguely mathematical calculations rose up from the page. “It doesn't look like anything, and I don't have any books to help me, I was wondering if it was familiar to you.” He grimaced. “Everything in bloody New Orleans Square seems off for some reason or another.”
Fay stared at it, absolutely confused. “… It would help if I could read this world’s way of writing,” he said after a few moments of puzzled gazing. “I could probably work it out then. Anyway!” he said, reaching for a pencil, “I’m sure we can work it out!”
Sirius glanced at Fay curiously. “Yeah? What's the writing like where you're from? I could try a translation spell if I knew some of your words.” He noticed the letter in his hand. “Oh, is that in your language?”
Fay turned the letter and scribbled on the back of it. “It’s like this,” he said, holding it up for Sirius to see. It was really a lot of looping lines, looking a lot more like a pattern than a language.
“No,” he answered, turning it over again to look at the unfamiliar words. “I have no idea what it says, and without Mokona around I can’t read it or reply. Where is Mokona?”
Sirius glanced at the words as well, after noting Fay's language. “That's in English there. I could read it out for you if you like. I could probably make you a translation spell for your language if I worked on it, but it'd take me a few days.”
The mage brightened even more, grinning eagerly at Sirius. “Really? That’ll be great~! Thank you, Sirius-san!” He gave Sirius a hug before handing him the letter, sitting down with his elbows on the table and his head on his hands.
Sirius laughed at the hug, and then sat at the table as well. “It says,

Fay nodded seriously, then said, “Could you write a reply for me? Just tell him I’ll be glad to, and he should call by the café in New Orleans Square to discuss further details.” There was a pause, then he clapped his hands and squealed, “Date food~!”
Sirius grinned, and wrote,
“Dear Mr. Adams,
Fay would be glad to cater your date. But he can't read or write, so it'd probably be better if you came by the cafe in New Orleans Square to discuss further details.
Sincerely and Way to Go,
Sirius Black”
"There, all written," Sirius said, grinning and handing the letter back to Fay. "And now just think of all the fun you can have with your very own attorney at your disposal!"
Fay just looked at him blankly. “… Att-or-ney?”

Date: 2007-04-19 09:35 pm (UTC)Nothing to do for it now, though, but to go. He didn't want to risk asking Miss Seddon because he knew she was friends with Susan, and as good as her food was, it was a little fussy for what he had in mind. Unaware of anyone else who prepared meals and unwilling to risk more people knowing, John did what he had to do. He went.
It was easy enough to find the cafe in New Orleans Square. Straightening his coat and looking dignified, John knocked on the door before pushing it open.
"Er, Mr. Flourite? Mr. Black? Hello?"

Date: 2007-04-22 10:54 am (UTC)He tilted his head to one side. "What does an attorney do?"
no subject
Date: 2007-04-22 08:06 pm (UTC)"An attorney, or lawyer, is a person legally appointed by another to act as his or her agent in the transaction of business, represent clients in a court of law, or advise or act for clients in other legal matters. Basically, I am an interpreter between the layman and the law. So if you had a dispute with someone, I could assist in rectifying it. Or if you needed assistance in creating legal papers."

Date: 2007-04-22 08:17 pm (UTC)... Most of that explanation passed over his head, and John got a blank look for an awful lot of it, and then, "Legal papers? Like... marriage certificates?"
no subject
Date: 2007-04-23 08:13 pm (UTC)He smiled then. "Yes, like marriage certificates. Also birth and death certificates, wills, powers of attorney, buying and selling of personal property, name changes, and so forth. Why do you ask, sir?"
no subject
Date: 2007-04-23 08:18 pm (UTC)He leant forward, and instead of answering directly, asked, "Can you do the ceremony too, or just the papers?"
((Also, your John icons are all made of win. Especially that one.))

Date: 2007-04-23 08:35 pm (UTC)"I'm afraid I'm no officiant, Mr. Fay. But if you were to find someone who is legally ordained, according to the laws of this place, with which I am as yet unfamiliar, I could possibly provide a legal marriage license. I will need to speak to Mr. Mouse first, but it is certainly possible. Are you looking to be married, sir?"
((William Daniels makes such great faces. :D))

Date: 2007-04-23 08:40 pm (UTC)"Are there any kind of marital laws here?" Fay wondered aloud. "There don't seem to be about anything else. And yes!" he said enthusiastically. "Me and my Kuro-chan~." His face took on a slightly dreamlike quality at the mention of Kurogane, and at the thought of marriage he made a little squealing noise.
((He does indeed! I need to see this film just for the expressions.))

Date: 2007-04-23 08:50 pm (UTC)"As I mentioned, I don't yet know what the law of the land states or even if there is one, so I will certainly check with Mr. Mouse on your behalf."
Grinning in recognition of a fellow lover, John bowed. "And may I be the first to congratulate you and your young lady."
((You haven't...? Oh, right. Not American. XD Well, I still highly recommend it! It makes politics interesting and reminds me that even though my country may be doing incredibly stupid things right now, the tenets it was founded on are sound. And he makes funny faces and sings. :D))

Date: 2007-04-23 09:03 pm (UTC)"..." Then the mage giggled even more, hand over his mouth to try and muffle the sound. "Silly~," he chuckled. "Kuro-rin is a man!" The thought of Kurogane as a woman was hilarious, though slightly disturbing.
((Nope! 8D Welsh. I don't know if it's available over here, I'll have to look. And singing rulers? Wins so much. Seriously, what do we get? Just lots of wars and waving and stuff :/))

Date: 2007-04-24 08:49 pm (UTC)He wasn't necessarily opposed to the idea; more that it had never before crossed his mind. It wasn't like there were a lot of out queers in the New England colonies (or any) but who knew what they got up to down South...
"Why?"
((*giggle* Oh, wait for the next one. :D And for the record, this version of John is straight and has not done every man in Congress. Take that

Date: 2007-04-24 09:02 pm (UTC)The next question just got a very blank look. "Because I love him," Fay said, as if talking to someone who was very slow and failing to get a simple concept. "And I want to stay with him forever. Are there any other reasons for getting married?"
((I now know to expect the best from Adams 8D And... every man in Congress? Won't he get pretty tired?))

Date: 2007-04-24 09:14 pm (UTC)But maybe Fay didn't want children. Perhaps he wanted to marry this Kuro-person-whose-name-kept-changing for another reason, like protection if his chosen partner were very large or strong.
((hee! Um, I don't pretend to understand those fangirls who would slash the men of Congress... They're old! And not gay! And were real people! It's all vaguely squicky, really.))
