Application for Simon from Gurren-Lagann
A cute little guy wearing thick goggles blinks in the sunlight and pushes the goggles up his forehead. He's in a strange place, he realizes as he looks around, and he frowns for a few seconds. It's the surface here all right, but it doesn't look like the surface he knows, and he's all alone.
Well, not quite alone-- a small, mole-like animal scampers up his shoulder and squeaks reassuringly. "Hey, Boota! I wonder how we got here?" Simon asks the mole-pig, and then sits down and pats the pavement beneath him-- it's a really strange material he's never felt before, and he's having a bit of trouble sensing where the weak point is. He prods the surface of the pavement, frowning, and then takes the drill hanging around his neck in a necklace and begins to probe at the surface.
Mickey coughs theatrically. "'What is your name?'"
When the mouse asks the question, he starts, and looks at the two talking animals in horror while Boota hides underneath his jacket. "Beastmen!" he exclaims, this time looking around above the surface of the ground, but not seeing any of his friends nearby. The beastmen were just small and didn't seem to have brought any mecha robots with them, but Simon was small too, and there was only one of him.
After a second, though, the question registers and he nervously says "Simon, from Giha village." Kamina wouldn't approve, but Simon really hoped they wouldn't give him any trouble here, not when he didn't have any way to defend himself.
"What is your quest?" asks the Cat. It's perched, suddenly, on the roof of one of the gate-stiles.
"I'm just a digger," Simon says, and then he notices he'd begun to back away despite neither of the beastmen even acting threatening. Who knew-- maybe they weren't even from the human extermination unit, and meant no harm. Either way, some part of Simon felt disloyal backing down against something that wasn't even a threat, so a few seconds later he added "but I'm also a member of the Gurren Brigade, so my quest is to," Simon thinks for a second, "pierce the heavens with my drill and, um, kick reason to the curb."
"'What is the average w..?'" Mickey frowns down at the notebook. "You know, I don't really see why that's important." He flips a page. "'If you could be granted three wishes, what would they be?'"
"Or," the Cat says, examining its tail with interest, "if you were a genie and someone you were trying to give three wishes to was trying to trick you into giving him more, what would you say?"
Simon tensed after speaking, but when neither beastman appeared about to attack him, he sighed in relief. "I don't know what a genie is or much about wishes. Aniki and I already got to find the surface, though, so that's one big wish right there. But if I could wish for anything, I guess it would be for everyone to be able to live on the surface in peace, where there's no wall or ceilings. Aniki can choose the other wishes, he'll probably pick better ones."
Mickey looks rather nonplused at the next, but reads, "'When the revolution comes, what skills will you be able to barter for food?''
"Revolution?" Simon asked, his eyes widening. "What do you mean? I'm a digger, but I pilot Lagann, too. So I'm sure we'll be fighting in a revolution."
The Cat rolls its eyes in a friendly (and rather disconcertingly out-of-sync) way, and asks, "Milk, dark, or white chocolate?"
Well, these questions were really strange and didn't make much sense. He'd wondered if the Beastmen were questioning him, but now he wasn't sure. "Sorry, I don't know what that is," he replied.
"'Choose the two coolest: robots, pirates, fairies, bears, ninjas, monkeys, vampires, or humans,'" says Mickey, giggling a bit as he goes through the list. "'Explain.'"
"Um, I don't know what most of those are, either. But I know robots and humans! I guess humans are coolest, because robots cause a lot of trouble for the people on the surface. But I'm glad I have Lagann, so I think robots can be cool too!" He smiles at that.
"Great!" Mickey flips through the blank pages of the notebook at top, cartoon-y speed. "Well, I think that's just about it! Oh, and I'm supposed to ask, 'for your safety: are you carrying anything sharp?'"
"Sharp?" Simon starts again-- no, it definitely sounds like he's being threatened. "I- I have my drill! I can fight!" He'd rather run, considering a drill wouldn't make a very good weapon, but there didn't seem like anywhere to go. "Aniki!"
((Simon is from Gurren-Lagann, prior to episode 7. I have permission from Kamina-mun to app. Also, translation note, aniki basically translates to 'bro,' but that sounds silly so I'm using the Japanese.))
