Party in Fantasyland! (Open to All)

The loading area and deck in front of It's a Small World had been transformed. Two large tables had been set up, one bearing the music equipment that Cayce had lugged over from Tomorrowland, the other marked out for food and drink. Another food table was set up at the shop.

Various other places in the vicinity had been marked out as well: a wide space for a dance floor; another wide space with a sign RESERVED FOR STARBUCK posted; a grassy area marked RESERVED FOR M. BEAUFORT; and the loading area was marked RESERVED FOR KIRA AND SETSUNA. Over the walk up to the ride, Cayce had hung a large hand-lettered banner that read:

IT'S A SMALL UNIVERSE (ALL OF THEM)

She'd raided every shop in the park for decorations, and pillars and eaves were festooned with Disneyfied representations of various cultures; there was some Mulan merchandise here, a few items ganked from the Indiana Jones Adventure there. Cayce herself felt, somewhat ruefully, that she wasn't capable of being much more than a representation of early 21st-century urban America, so she wore the dress Crowley had given her. Anyone who was expecting her to do a reprise of the bikini business would be sadly disappointed.

After Cayce felt that a critical mass of crowd had been achieved, she went to the music system and turned on the microphone.

"Hi there, everyone. It's good to see you here, and thanks for playing along with my silly party idea. It's kind of a squishy liberal American thing to say—see, I'm representing my culture now—but can I just say that it's great to see the diversity here, and to see everyone taking pride in where they come from. So, thanks. Especially to Psyche, for letting us tromp all over her home and for keeping the music under control; to Crowley as always for the booze; and to everyone who brought something to share." She started to put the mic down, then remembered: "Oh, and thank you to Kira and Setsuna, who will be starting a limbo contest shortly." She grinned. "So if you think you're up for it, see how low you can go." A self-deprecating laugh at the cheesiness of what she'd just said. "Thanks again for coming, and have fun."

((Party time! Talk amongst yourselves, hassle Cayce, get drunk and ride through It's a Small World (not recommended), and otherwise have fun. Feel free to set your post before or after Cayce's little speech.))

((ETA: Here's the limbo thread!))

"Absolutely," he agreed, and leaned away from her just enough to get his hand in his breast pocket. "Say Una," he asked innocently as he came up with the sonic screwdriver. "Can you swing?"

Her eyebrows went up at the sight of the sonic screwdriver and she gave him an amused, quizzical look. "Well, yes I can, Doctor."

He pointed the screwdriver in the direction of Cayce's macgyvered music system and the last strains of "I've Got You Under My Skin" swapped over into the beginning of Jack Rabbit Slim's "Something Baby (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IX-Hg9M41GU)." With a smirk he tucked the screwdriver away and offered her his hand with a grin that was nothing but smug.

Where he was smug, she was assured, and she executed a neat spin as she took his hand. "Someday I'm going to have to learn how you do that."

[identity profile] a-lonely-god.livejournal.com 2008-08-26 09:04 pm (UTC)(link)
"What, be spontaneous and charming?" he joked, looking appreciative over the spin before starting off simple with a triple step each way, and then the walk where you stepped behind your own foot -whatever that was called, he could never remember (if he had ever learned)-

[identity profile] una-harlequin.livejournal.com 2008-08-26 09:10 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh, that too," she laughed. She matched his steps. "Is there anything that screwdriver can't do?"

[identity profile] a-lonely-god.livejournal.com 2008-08-26 09:24 pm (UTC)(link)
"Make tea," he answered, and it was obvious by the expediency of his response that he had, in fact, tried it. "It makes a lousy cup of tea. And would you believe it's not actually all that good at screws?"

A walk forward with two more triples and then swivles, leading her into a tuck and turn where she could spin out from him and then back.

[identity profile] una-harlequin.livejournal.com 2008-08-26 09:35 pm (UTC)(link)
"As a matter of fact, I would believe that," she said. She hung for just a fraction of a beat too long on the tuck (pushing the limits of the music, like always), then spun out and back with a flourish. "It's always the simplest things that get you, after all."

[identity profile] a-lonely-god.livejournal.com 2008-08-26 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
"It was quite good at screws before I soniced it," the Doctor assured her, taking them through another turn and then a one-armed slide that put them at arm's length from each other. "A very capable ordinary screwdriver. And now it's a very capable non-ordinary screwdriver. But nobody can do everything; maybe I'll add a proper screw setting one day."

Well if she wanted to push the limits of the music he was happy to participate. As far as the Doctor understood, the point of swing dancing was to move your feet as fast as you could. Which was a goal he approved of. So he executed a neat little series of dance steps, pulled her back in for another triple-step turn, and then repeated the process, eager to see how she met the footwork with her own.

For someone who'd seemed as nervous as he had earlier when she'd asked him to dance, he was rather good at this. Untidy, but then this kind of dancing wasn't supposed to be tidy. It was supposed to be fun, and she was enjoying herself as much as she ever had; she hoped he felt the same.

What was it they said about Ginger Rogers: that she did everything Fred Astaire did, only backwards and in high heels? She followed his steps with some light and fancy footwork of her own, and where some might have been content with a single spin, she worked in two. A lock of hair that she'd pinned up came undone, but she didn't really notice.

He laughed and would have clapped if he hadn't been busy with his own turn, passing her hand from one of his to the other behind his back. A quick swivel of the hips and then he pulled her close again, going back to the basic step while he tried to figure out what to do next.

[identity profile] una-harlequin.livejournal.com 2008-09-02 06:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Her momentum was a little off—too ambitious on that spin, perhaps—and as he pulled her back she landed in his arms just a little too emphatically. Laughing all the same, though, and looking up at him with a wide, giddy grin. "If I'd known you were this good, I'd have made sure we'd done this before."

[identity profile] a-lonely-god.livejournal.com 2008-09-08 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
He caught her with a laugh and slid a hand around her back again.

"So would've I," he admitted, lifting the other hand to tuck back that errant strand of hair, which was basically admitting that he hadn't thought he'd be very good at it.

[identity profile] una-harlequin.livejournal.com 2008-09-08 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
She tilted her head slightly towards his hand, unconsciously perhaps. "Any more tricks up your sleeve?"

[identity profile] a-lonely-god.livejournal.com 2008-09-12 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh, I'm always full of tricks," he promised with an impish wink. "Song's almost over," he added, glancing in the direction of the speakers. He turned them around again, still holding her close. "Thanks for the invite."

[identity profile] una-harlequin.livejournal.com 2008-09-13 06:59 am (UTC)(link)
She giggled a little at the wink. "You're welcome, of course. You've only ever to ask."

[identity profile] a-lonely-god.livejournal.com 2008-09-26 06:06 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'll invite you next time." He swung her around one more time and dipped her a little. It wasn't quite the right move for the kind of dancing they were doing just now, but he did it anyway. Because he wanted to.

[identity profile] una-harlequin.livejournal.com 2008-09-26 08:11 pm (UTC)(link)
"Looking forward to it." Laughing, she followed and allowed herself a little flourish at the bottom of the dip.

She righted herself then and looked up, beaming happily. She started to raise herself up a little on her toes to kiss him on the cheek.
