Party in Fantasyland! (Open to All)

The loading area and deck in front of It's a Small World had been transformed. Two large tables had been set up, one bearing the music equipment that Cayce had lugged over from Tomorrowland, the other marked out for food and drink. Another food table was set up at the shop.

Various other places in the vicinity had been marked out as well: a wide space for a dance floor; another wide space with a sign RESERVED FOR STARBUCK posted; a grassy area marked RESERVED FOR M. BEAUFORT; and the loading area was marked RESERVED FOR KIRA AND SETSUNA. Over the walk up to the ride, Cayce had hung a large hand-lettered banner that read:

IT'S A SMALL UNIVERSE (ALL OF THEM)

She'd raided every shop in the park for decorations, and pillars and eaves were festooned with Disneyfied representations of various cultures; there was some Mulan merchandise here, a few items ganked from the Indiana Jones Adventure there. Cayce herself felt, somewhat ruefully, that she wasn't capable of being much more than a representation of early 21st-century urban America, so she wore the dress Crowley had given her. Anyone who was expecting her to do a reprise of the bikini business would be sadly disappointed.

~

After Cayce felt that a critical mass of crowd had been achieved, she went to the music system and turned on the microphone.

"Hi there, everyone. It's good to see you here, and thanks for playing along with my silly party idea. It's kind of a squishy liberal American thing to say—see, I'm representing my culture now—but can I just say that it's great to see the diversity here, and to see everyone taking pride in where they come from. So, thanks. Especially to Psyche, for letting us tromp all over her home and for keeping the music under control; to Crowley as always for the booze; and to everyone who brought something to share." She started to put the mic down, then remembered: "Oh, and thank you to Kira and Setsuna, who will be starting a limbo contest shortly." She grinned. "So if you think you're up for it, see how low you can go." A self-deprecating laugh at the cheesiness of what she'd just said. "Thanks again for coming, and have fun."

((Party time! Talk amongst yourselves, hassle Cayce, get drunk and ride through It's a Small World (not recommended), and otherwise have fun. Feel free to set your post before or after Cayce's little speech.))

((ETA: Here's the limbo thread!))

Jean-Etienne had gone to more trouble than he imagined he would, if only in an effort to impress someone. He arrived early on, large blanket thrown over his shoulder, which looked, he thought, frankly ridiculous in his suit, but never mind. After spreading it out in his space, he left, to return several minutes later with bottles of wine (admittedly taken from the drinks table, but he was planning on sharing) and what he'd considered the closest to 'French' food avaliable. There was cheese and cakes, mainly, as it was quite difficult to find snails, and his cooking was not particuarly up to scratch.

He then stuck his small homemade paper Tricolour-on-a-stick in the grass in front of the blanket and set up his own little sign, reading, 'La (Premier/3eme) Republique Française - Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité. A Bastille Day picnic - We have wine, cheese and cake.' Because that was all his country was about... The thing was, most of the other things he considered decidedly French were unavaliable, or amorphous concepts anyway. He threw his jacket down on the grass and opened the wine. Hopefully Marguerite or Tamaki (not that he'd recognise him) would be along shortly.

Marguerite had spent sometime doing what she could to get some things together. She had been able to scrape enough fabric together for a large tri-color flag and matching sash around the waist of her dress. She had seen in some of the shops pictures (which still amazed her) of people with bright colored fabric and things in their hair unlike she'd seen before. So she spent sometime in the mirror making red little strips and braiding them in. After some thought she decided she should show some pride for England too. After all, she spent her school days there and lived there now. So she took little strips of sparkly white fabric and made little X's that held the braids together.

She had also made French bread, her mother had taught her how sometime ago and she'd been practicing. So she brought those along with her as well. "Bonjour!" She smiled cheerfully at Jean-Etienne as she approached, hanging up the impromptu banner and placing the basket of French bread down. "How is everything?" She asked taking a seat near him.

Beaufort's eyes widened at her flag, "You certainly beat me on the flag front." He picked up his flag out of the grass, "And you baked bread!" He looked for somewhere to put his flag, and failing for anywhere interesting, he put it in his waistcoat pocket, where it sort of hung out limply. "All is well, madame, oh...uh, wine?" He reached over and poured her some in a cup, which normally he'd have complained about, but wine was wine at the minute. "How are you, anyway?"

[identity profile] adore-therockin.livejournal.com 2008-07-29 01:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Marguerite laughed at his expression. "I've been sewing lately. One dress does not do well if one is baking. So I thought I'd try it," she laughed again as he tried to put his flag somewhere as well. "Oh! Wine would be delightful!" Taking an extra pin from her hair she took his little flag from him and pinned it onto his jacket. "Much better," Marguerite took a loaf of bread and a knife to cut it. "Yes, my Mother taught me when I was little." How was she? Marguerite smiled ear to ear. "I am delightfully happy at the moment."

[identity profile] oui-ministre.livejournal.com 2008-07-29 01:52 pm (UTC)(link)
He laughed, admittedly a little bashfully, as she pinned the flag to his jacket, "Ah, merci." Handing her the wine, he took a sip of his own, "Really? Well, good, good. And your hair...that's interesting. Very nice, I must say, but interesting." He'd never really seen anything like that before, but on her, it looked fabulous. Most things did.

[identity profile] adore-therockin.livejournal.com 2008-07-29 02:15 pm (UTC)(link)
She happily took the wine from him, "Ah, merci!" She grinned, taking a sip and enjoying it throuoly. It had been so long since she'd had anything! Marguerite laughed despite herself. "Yes, I'm afraid it didn't come out quite how I wanted it too. But thank you." She smiled holding up her cup to him in honor. After cutting the bread she offered a piece to Jean-Etienne before taking one for herself. She took a bite and took a moment to look around, hoping she might see someone but not too hopeful. "You picked a good spot, I must say," she complimented him. Sunlight and shade, she was a fan.

[identity profile] oui-ministre.livejournal.com 2008-07-29 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Jean-Etienne shrugged, "It still looks wonderful, but maybe you just have the talent of making anything look good." He took the bread off her and took a long sip of wine. "To be honest, I just asked Cayce where was avaliable, so she made more of a choice than I did."

[identity profile] adore-therockin.livejournal.com 2008-07-29 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Marguerite blushed as she took a bite of her bread. "That is very kind of you to say." She took another sip of wine and shrugged. "Well, it works well then. Simple yet, affective." Marguerite nodded happily.

[identity profile] oui-ministre.livejournal.com 2008-07-30 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
He smiled to himself when she blushed, something was going his way at least, "It's the best way to do things, sometimes." He leant back on the grass a little, "I must say, though, this was a wonderful idea. Made me find a little patriotism when I must admit, I was running short on it." He took a bite out of his bread and took a moment to look up at the sky. Always clear.

[identity profile] adore-therockin.livejournal.com 2008-07-30 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
"I think so. It's not too over the top. Which is how the French do things," Marguerite reasoned aloud. She smiled and nodded, "Yes, I think it brings people together for something everyone can celebrate. It doesn't matter when you're from."

[identity profile] oui-ministre.livejournal.com 2008-07-30 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
"We're not too over the top, or over the top?" Beaufort laughed slightly, "Because in my experience, we do most things by full measure." He looked back at her, "Certainly, and I think everyone sort of feels a detatchment from their home here. It's nice to do something like this, just to get back in touch with your home." Although, here he was, talking to someone who lived through the most important event in his nation's history. Unfortunately, he was distracted by how damn attractive she was to even think about that right now.

[identity profile] adore-therockin.livejournal.com 2008-07-30 05:35 am (UTC)(link)
"I think we know when enough is enough. Spectacle wise," Marguerite clarified. Althouogh she wasn't sure what she thought anymore. Politics aside however, the French were elegant and well groomed. Knowing the latest fashion but in most cases not over doing it. "Yes, I couldn't agree more." She smiled at that feeling the serge of pride she used to feel for her country once more as she sipped on her wine.

[identity profile] oui-ministre.livejournal.com 2008-07-30 12:01 pm (UTC)(link)
"I suppose we don't go as all out gaudy as this park seems to manage. Even so, we're still less boring than the English." Not that he was making that comment towards anyone in particular, just a passing comment, of course. He drank some more wine and gave her a quick glance, "It's nice to have someone to share it with, though."

[identity profile] adore-therockin.livejournal.com 2008-07-30 12:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Marguerite giggled at the comment about the park. "Yes, I must say this park really knows how to out do itself!" She wasn't sure however what to say about the English comment. "Well, they just need a few more lively people is all." Simple enough. No opinion really. "Yes, I must say it is." Marguerite smiled at him kindly. He was the only person who knew her secret and they had bonded through that. Jean-Etienne's friendship meant a lot to her here.

[identity profile] oui-ministre.livejournal.com 2008-07-30 02:51 pm (UTC)(link)
"But yet, only can be bothered to celebrate one nation's holiday. Then again, apparently, we are in America. In a sort of twisted fashion." Beaufort shrugged, as he actually was quite fond of them, but recent events, both at home and in the park, skewed his opinion, "Either that or they need to find better ways of expressing themselves. And I really couldn't think of anyone better to share this with." Let her decide what he meant by that. He was eager to hear her response too, as a lot of his semi-thought out plans rested on thoughts like that.

[identity profile] adore-therockin.livejournal.com 2008-07-30 04:15 pm (UTC)(link)
The thought that she was technically in America hadn't occurred to her yet. Marguerite couldn't help but wonder what it would have been like if she had been here, or there or well wherever she was during her own time. Marguerite couldn't help but blush at his comment. She was quiet for a moment and pulled out her fan and fanned herself leisurely for a moment before responding. "Truly? I am honored to be thought of so highly by you."

[identity profile] oui-ministre.livejournal.com 2008-07-30 04:22 pm (UTC)(link)
She blushed and he took that as a good sign, although he wasn't sure quite what to make of what she backed it up with, "Well, madame, I thought I made my opinions on that subject perfectly clear." And he did, but he was now a little worried that she hadn't quite followed. Hm.

[identity profile] adore-therockin.livejournal.com 2008-07-31 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
"I am glad is all. I suppose it has been sometime since I've had an intellectual conversation and I am simply glad I make for good company." Marguerite explained to friend.

[identity profile] oui-ministre.livejournal.com 2008-07-31 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
Well, yes, he thought, you won't get much of that from your husband, "I'm glad I could be of help, then, and anytime you want stimulating conversation, you'll be most welcome." He wasn't about to point out that there were several other places you could find it around here if you looked.

[identity profile] adore-therockin.livejournal.com 2008-07-31 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
"I'll have to remember that then. I may end up monopolizing your time then you will be sick of me!" Marguerite teased as she reached for her cup of wine and continued to fan herself.

[identity profile] oui-ministre.livejournal.com 2008-07-31 02:24 pm (UTC)(link)
"It's nice for someone to have a monopoly on my time, though," he sipped his wine and shrugged, "At home, the free market demand was tearing me to pieces, I'm sure." Which was a liberal economics joke, which she might not get, he thought a little too late, as Adam Smith wasn't even born then.

[identity profile] adore-therockin.livejournal.com 2008-07-31 06:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Marguerite smiled and nodded pretending she knew what he was speaking about. Time differences, she assumed. "Oh! Did you ever contact that other fellow about all this?" Marguerite asked.

[identity profile] oui-ministre.livejournal.com 2008-07-31 07:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Beaufort nodded, "Ah, yes. He's apparently, very musical. Or can play the piano at least. I've yet to see evidence of this, but I'm happy to take his word for it. He should come by at some time. Tamaki Suoh, although I've probably butchered the pronuciation."

[identity profile] adore-therockin.livejournal.com 2008-07-31 07:52 pm (UTC)(link)
"The piano! How wonderful! Music is such a treasure I find." Marguerite smiled happy for the change in topic which was something she knew more of. "Perhaps we'll meet him then!" Marguerite laughed, "No need to worry! I'm sure he'll let us know how we're supposed say his name. I'm sure he's learned not everyone here has such a wide range of--" What was the word she was looking for? "Well, that not everyone knows certain things considering the lapses in time that occur." She specified.

[identity profile] oui-ministre.livejournal.com 2008-07-31 08:50 pm (UTC)(link)
"I hope he will. Not to mention I don't have the first clue how to start pronouncing anything in Japanese." Beaufort shrugged, "He did tell me his French name though, but it escapes my memory." Which made him feel rather foolish, for a start. But hopefully, he'd introduce himself to Marguerite anyway.
