Thinking about Fay and Kurogane's wedding one morning, it occurred to John that he hadn't spoken with Susan on the matter since... Well, it had been some period and they had been otherwise pleasantly engaged at the time. While John knew he didn't need to ask formally, somehow it seemed more romantic to put it in writing, hence his letter.
My dearest Susan,
Would you do me the very great honor of attending Messrs Flourite and Kurogane's wedding with me?
The children can attend as well. I'm certain Master Calvin will not enjoy it, but I suggest it may assist in building his character to learn how to sit through a formal social ceremony with adults. And sweet Miss Pearl would take some pleasure in the activity, I believe. Perhaps we can find her a lovely new gown for the occasion. If you would be so kind as to notify me as to her dress size, I can begin the search this afternoon.
I am
Your loving,
John
