James and Sirius, for today an accountant and a dentist, respectively, put the finishing touches on the Haunted Mansion (they had started the night before, and upon finding that in the morning their changes were still there, they had been quite pleased and finished up). Now that the room where the ceiling rose was magicked so that everyone would fit in it and still have plenty of space to move. On top of that, they had magically rewired the loudspeakers to the room, put up some spooky decorations, and even completed it with fake, scary looking ghosts (they had both been quite disappointed in the morning to discover that some of their ruder decorations, including hot, naked ghosts, were removed).

Then, James began to write the letters, and started some music.

Crowley,

We're throwing a party at the Haunted Mansion. Do you think you could provide refreshments? Feel free to come as well.

Then, identical letters were sent out to everyone in the park.

Hey,

There will be a Halloween party at the Haunted Mansion in New Orlean's Square. Come around and have a great time. Also, if you have drinks or food that you want to bring to share, feel free.

On the bottom of the paper, there's a witch flying on a broom, actually moving around on the paper.

At the mention of death, Chii put her hands to the middle of her chest and nodded her head. "Chii knows what death is. It is to stop moving. Chii does not like it. And Chii has learned more about souls from Fell-san."

Fay hugged her then, trying to give her some comfort. "A lot of people don't like death," he said quietly. "But it happens to everyone. A ghost is a soul that, after dying, doesn't move on because it still has something to do. After it has done that, the ghost can be at peace." He hoped his brother was at peace, he really did...

"Chii...." Chii's eyes went a little blank at this conversation. Ghost...soul.... Peace?

Slowly, she looked up at Fay and asked, "What happens when the ghosts stay?"

"Then the place becomes haunted, and the ghost tries to do what it needs to before it can be at peace." Fay frowned a bit at Chii's eyes, and asked quietly, "Are you all right?"

~~Chii's circuits are haunted, then.~~

Chii's eyes returned to normal as she looked up at Fay and nodded, but she didn't smile this time. "Chii is okay. But then...this place has ghosts in it? Can we see them?" Maybe they could find them and help them get to Heaven.

~~Shush, it's more dramatic than that.~~

Fay was more relieved than he felt he should be when Chii's eyes returned to normal. "No, not real ghosts," he answered. "Pretend ones. If they were real, not everyone would be able to see them. I couldn't."

~~But it's so much more amusing that way.~~

"Pretend?" Chii repeated, looking around the room. "This is just for fun? Why would people pretend that?" It was all...very confusing.

Fay shook his head. "I really don't know. Some people find it fun to be scared."

"Scared? But how is it scary?" Chii asked, completely confused. She didn't find souls or ghosts frightening, just...sad.

"Oh, most of the ghosts in haunted houses are bad," Fay answered. "Most of the ones in real life aren't, but people prefer to hear stories about evil things than good. I don't understand that at all," he reflected.

"Chii does not understand either," the robot said, looking terribly puzzled. "Chii likes good things." But...whatever made everyone else happy.

"Everyone likes different 'good things', I guess," Fay said. "And it's fine, as long as what they like doesn't hurt others."

Chii didn't understand why anyone would want to hurt other people. So many things were still lost on the girl. All the same, she nodded to Fay.

"So do we look for pretend ghosts in haunted mansions?" Chii asked, still trying to understand what they were to do at the party.
