Town Meeting

John awoke at his usual early hour on the morning of the town meeting. He dressed with slightly more than usual care in his suit of clothes from home, broke his fast with a light meal, and headed to the Golden Horseshoe to ensure that things were the way he wanted.

The chairs and small tables were already perfectly arranged, but John dragged a podium he found backstage out to the front of the curtain. Then he bustled about in the kitchen area setting out drinks and whatever small snacks he could find back there.

Before long, interested citizens began filing in and he went up to the podium. There was no microphone because he'd never heard of such a thing, but John Adams never had difficulty making himself heard.

"Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome. If you would please pick up any refreshments you'd care for and take your seats, we'll begin in just a few minutes."

She shot Kira an amused smile. "See? The benefits of a free press."

"Good question. I'm sure there are a lot of things they could find to do," said Rukia, giving the matter some serious thought. "Someone runs a newspaper. Maybe they could do something like that..."

Spandex and a leather jacket was an interesting choice...

He's either a super hero or a pro wrestler.

She waves back.

"Huh... That's kinda not fair."

Kon'd heard that intonation before, and he never really took it well, but he managed to not say what he was thinking--but whatever this guy'd dealt with back home... He just shook his head, knowing they couldn't have been like Ivy or Knockout or Harm, and shot a wide-eyed skeptical look at his girlfriend, best friend, and Static while he was at it.

Noticing her sort-of charge waving at Logan, Rukia smiles. "You can go say hello," she tells her. Not that Rukia gets the impression Pippi needs to be told. She only recognizes Logan vaguely at the boy who was on the radio once, but he seems harmless enough.

Re: Tl;dr, I apologize.

"So let me see if I got this all... There's nothing here that needs doing, and it's really quite boring after a bit. Bakers and cooks get to bake and cook. Because that's what bakers and cooks do. Reporters make a newspaper, because that's what those guys do. And you want to ply your trade. Which is being a policeman... Ja?"

[identity profile] no1likeher.livejournal.com 2007-10-23 05:05 pm (UTC)(link)
"I dunno, mebbe I should wait until he's done disagreeing with the policeman."

"Not surprisin' is it?" he asked. "It always goes like that. But the folks who are here are the ones that are doin' stuff."

[identity profile] no1likeher.livejournal.com 2007-10-23 05:11 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'm sorry sir, English is not my first language you see. How is that different from how it was before this meeting?"

[identity profile] rose-ravager.livejournal.com 2007-10-23 05:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Rose snickered softly when Kon gave her that wide-eyed look. "Yeah... kinda funny, isn't it?"

[identity profile] rose-ravager.livejournal.com 2007-10-23 05:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Rose shook her head. "No, it's kind of a club... the big boys and girls get to play on the League, most of us others are Titans or the Outsiders, or run free lance like Nightwing does and Arsenal used to." She tilted her head. "Somehow, though, I don't think that we're here to discuss the meta-human system... In fact... nah, just gonna shut it now. Never was interested in politics and shite back home."

[identity profile] rose-ravager.livejournal.com 2007-10-23 05:20 pm (UTC)(link)
"Ugh, I've seen wars more organized." She shrugged, and then returned Logan's smile with an edgy, toothy one of her own. "Maybe we should."

She looked at Kon, and then patted his shoulder. "Probably."

[identity profile] rose-ravager.livejournal.com 2007-10-23 05:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Rose laughed and patted Kon's shoulder. "If that jerk shows up, you can trust that I'm going to see just how quickly the park's defenses can react. That jerk has screwed over way too many of the people I like."

"At least until we institute libel laws -- not that I'm suggesting we do," she added hurriedly. "Anyway, all jokes aside, it would be really great if, say, everyone who has any random piece of data about the park, anything at all, would send it to me. I can print it in the next copy of the paper and we can use that as a foundation for our knowledge base."

...did she just say "knowledge base"? Shit. Clearly she hadn't been out of the corporate world long enough.

[identity profile] no1likeher.livejournal.com 2007-10-23 06:20 pm (UTC)(link)
"Ooooh! Why didn't you just say that in the first place?"

reposting comment to be more clear

"Yes it does." Pippi said. and then decided she liked Kon's version a little better (http://community.livejournal.com/dizzy_land/179878.html?thread=10277286#t10277286).

Carrot smiled and shook Dick's hand. "It's always nice to meet another officer. If Detective Orcott is any example, you certainly work for a commendable force. If this meeting goes at all well, I hope we'll be seeing you joining us."

Carrot was getting a somewhat 'Sergeant Colon' feel from Dick Gumshoe, but that didn't mean he was being in any way dishonest. Carrot respected Colon, and thought that he was a very good copper if you ignored all the ways that he wasn't. He had been one of the first people to teach Carrot how to really be a police officer, at any rate.

He turned to Leon. "I think I am, sir. Either way this goes, I'm sure it will be for the best to get the people here thinking about these issues."

[identity profile] kzadbhat.livejournal.com 2007-10-23 06:40 pm (UTC)(link)
"If you'd heard what I'd just discussed with Rukia," Carrot said pleasantly, with no trace of condescension in his voice, "Detective Orcott and I were never promoting a system where the police would decide what would become of the people we arrested. We'd leave that up to everyone, so our biases wouldn't be an issue in that case."

Leon listened quietly to John as John continued. Leon know what John was saying really was the rational, logical thing (sort of. He disagreed with the last statement, as he thought it best to have something in place that never got used than to have nothing in place when something went onj), but Leon was never a very rational, logical person. He could be, but he was renowned for his instinct, following through on his gut feeling, and always getting a result.

Besides, with D gone, the police force was all he had left keeping him sane in Disneyland.

"Fine," he bellowed, finally snapping. "Fine, if that's the way you all want it, I wash my hands of you all. D had the fucking right idea after all." And then, he stalked down the lanes, grabbed the letter and badge Una had left there, and headed first to his home for some alcohol, and then to the lake.

D really had had the right idea after all. Humans were good for nothing, and the only creatures that knew what was good for them were the bloody animals. All the best conversations he had had before showing up here were with animals, and though there weren't many hear that could carry on a conversation, he did vaguely recall seeing some cats and dogs wandering around.

After an awkward silence, Cayce said, a little more loudly than she intended, "...that could've gone better."
