In the interim, I spoke to Cayce, and she explained the banners much as you've done. She also said something about car dealership sales, drinking beer, and eating grilled food, although what that has to do with a patriotic holiday, I'm not quite certain. I suppose it's because one has a day off or some such. I'm sorry, this must all be deeply odd to you. The phrase "unintended consequences" comes to mind, although I suppose there are worse.
