Dearest Susan,

Please accept my humble Apologies. I intended to speak to you much sooner on this subject, but I thought it better to wait until I had Information for you. As of yet, I have heard from Miss Kuchiki, Mr. Bernard Black, and a Mr. Strange, and Mr. Fell has offered the use of his home for the Salon. Six would appear to be a Reasonable number.

A small girl? Oh, my dear, you are certainly the most Generous, open-hearted, and fair of creatures. I can only hope she is less... Challenging than Master Calvin. If I may be of any Assistance with the children, please do not hesitate to let me know. If nothing else, perhaps I may Distract him for an afternoon while you tend to the young lady.

In fact, I did learn the meaning of the banners. A person who Declined to leave a name informed me that it is a Celebration called 'the Fourth of July, Independence Day'. It is apparently intended to mark the Occasion of our signing the Declaration of Independence and freeing ourselves from the Tyranny of Great Britain. A holiday based on such a thing as signing a document... it is difficult to accept. Once again I find myself longing for that Experience of signing. The records state that I did, do, will - sign, yet I, myself, have not done so. Had we known, Susan, could we have put our Names to such a paper? I know not.

And yet,
I am,
Always,
Yours,
John
