Letter to Kit

Marguerite had found some old clothes that she was able to patch together in order to have some sort of a change of clothing, besides that most of her time was taken up with ideas for her cafe. Seeing as her rooms wouldn't be like home as she liked, a French inspired cafe might just do the trick. Fretting about she made a list of things to do and get. Before long she realized she needed some help. She needed to reach out, but to whom? Perhaps this Kit fellow Percy had mentioned. Surly he would be of help.

Dear Kit,

Hello, I am aware that you don't know me, but it would seem we have a common acquaintance. Well, more than that actually. I am new here and I was informed by my husband, Percy that if I needed any help or anything that you would be a helpful sort. I do understand that this is most improper seeing as we have yet to be formally introduced, but I do hope you can forgive me that. If you are otherwise inclined, I truly understand and perhaps another time.

"It is absurdly random, I must confess." Kitty shrugged, as she couldn't give any real explaination herself, "You'll get used to it, I'm afraid. I wish I could say you'd go home before you can, but that hardly happens, it seems."

Kitty paused for a moment to consider what might be tactful to say here, "He was just a friendly face to talk to, I suppose. I...well, tea, if there is any. And chocolate? Well, I've only heard of two types myself."

"Oh, I understand," Marguerite smiled sadly. The park was unreal, and in some aspects a marvelous place but she missed home.

"Oh, yes. He is very good at that," Marguerite said wistfully, thinking to herself that it was the face she fell in love with. "That is what I seems to be finding is the most common reply. I'll have to further investigate it myself," she smiled, laughing. "Oh of course! I've managed to collect some, and although I'm not quite used to this sort, if you'd like some," Marguerite smiled, offering a small little remade pouch to Kit.

"About the chocolate? You might want to ask someone from the 20th century. Seems to be a late 20th century thing." Kitty shrugged and looked over, "Ah yes, tea bags. Wonderfully convienient. A lot less messy than tea in my time."

"Ah, I see," Marguerite nodded making a mental note. "Truly marvelous! Would you like a cup now? I wanted to show you what I was thinking," Marguerite explained to her.

"I would, yes. And by all means, go ahead." Kitty was still rather nervous, but there was nothing a cup of tea couldn't solve. Right? Right.

"Brilliant!" Marguerite cried, running to the small room in the back and getting two tea cups and pouring the water in them before bringing them out. After setting them out she went back to get lemon and sweetener. "I'm not sure how you like it," she smiled putting the spoon of the saucer.

After adding some lemon and a bit of sugar to her tea she pulled a piece of paper from the pocket in her dress along with a pen. "Marvelous things these are. I must say these people have got convience down to an art," The idea of not needing ink and a quill still amazed her.

"I drew out a little plan of sorts. I'm looking to find more tables and chairs like these, and perhaps setting some sort of counter, for breads and the like. I am hoping to find find some extra cloth," she went on. "And after some practice I was thinking to embroder the table covers with the emblem of the Scarlet Pimpernel," she added excitedly. If she could manage to remember what she had been taught so long ago. "Have you heard of him?"

"Black'll be fine." To be honest, she had a habit of drinking tea however it was given to her, as it was usually done in a rush, like a lot of things in her life. "They are exceptionally good at finding ways to do things quickly, I must say."

She squashed her teabag against the side of her cup, then took it out, "Um...no, sorry, I never really paid attention to much history." Well, she had, but only since she'd got here, and she wasn't about to let slip a man's secrets, even to his wife. That would be unfair. She knew what it was like to hide things from even the people closest to you, and she wasn't about to mention it. Unless, of course, Marguerite admitted it was her husband and then all could move on.

"That they are, it still unnerves me however," Marguerite explained then dropped the subject.

"No?! Truly, he is a hero of sorts from my time," she explained, more than happy to talk of the accomplishments and bravery of the Scarlet Pimpernel. "He risks his life in order to save those innocent from the guillotine. People who he may not know, or of little consequence to him or his league. They are a band of men we believe," she went on excitedly, taking a sip from her tea before going on. "We wear the Scarlet Pimpernel in a homage to him and his bravery. He has done what so few have had the courage and the daring to do," she said sadly thinking on the Count and his family and how she unwillingly sent them to their death. "And I owe him more than I could say. He saved someone so dear to me, I only wish I could thank him myself," she said with a sad smile.

Kit nodded, following the period she was talking about at least and trying not to appear like she knew a lot of this already, as she clearly did not know who he was. Which partly made her want to give Percy a clip, but she could understand the mentality, "That is incredibly brave, I must say. And you never know, you might get the opportunity."

"That's not even the half of it, he is," Marguerite sighed trying to find the words she was looking for to describe the man that she held in such high esteem. "He's a wonder, he is said to have fooled even the most cunning of men. He is a marvel," she smiled before shaking herself out of it. "Do you really think so?" she asked Kit.

"In any case, what I am thinking of is using the Scarlet Pimpernel as inspiration for this place. There is nothing else I can think of that reminds me so much of home. I am thinking about getting some red flowers for the sill, too," she went on. "But what I would love your ideas on, is what is it that people would enjoy with their tea, or coffee, or even chocolate. I'm afraid I am quite behind with that thinking and some of this food is quite odd,"

"He sounds...legendary, I must say." Kitty laughed and smiled at her, "Yes, I think eventually, you will. I don't see why not." Percy had to tell her at some point, didn't he? Possibly.

"Ah. What to have with tea." She breathed in carefully, as she could talk at length about some of the awful things she had been provided with after shows, and some of the better things. "Personally, any sort of cake is a universal...cross time...tea accompaniment. So cake is a must, especially chocolate. Make a good chocolate cake and nobody cares how bad the rest of it is. Um. I also like a good cream tea, but that's a British thing. Involves tea, scones, cream and jam. Wonderful."

"That he is," she agreed. She did? Didn't she, and everyone she'd me say that there was no way out? Some disappeared but no one knew where to? Perhaps it was something to think on later.

Marguerite couldn't help but laugh at Kit's logic. "Yes, I suppose that is true. Although I don't think anyone had ever put it so, bluntly before," she laughed. It felt wonderful to laugh again. "Yes, I was learning before I left. I'm still getting used to it all, Percy was showing me. Jam, then? Any particular kind you like, or generally preferred?" she asked.

"I do apologise for my bluntness, but it was the best way of expressing the point." Kitty smiled and pondered, "Strawberry jam is a safe bet, but I'm not exactly sure if it'll have stood the test of 100 years, if you know what I mean. It was certainly popular in my time.

"Oh no, it is refreshing. I'm afraid that my manners are outdated as it would seem," she explained, not enjoying the feeling of being out of fashion, and old in general. "Then I'll have to find out to be sure but I'll make a note of it. Any other suggestions? I'm open to anything really, seeing as I'm not sure," she smiled hoping to get some sort of idea of the time.

"I think everyone's quite accepting around here, they understand that we're a couple of centuries out of date." Kitty sighed and thought about it carefully, "Well, what can you make? Or what can you cook? Start there, as some of it will be fine, I reckon. Besides, people might like the novelty of food as-it-was-in 179...2?

"Yes, I just loathe the feeling of not being up to date," she explained, she was used to setting the tone wherever she went so this was new to her. "Well, not very much really. I remember my Mère making somethings and how I used to watch and help," she admitted. "Since then, I must confess I haven't cooked or baked at all. Perhaps, maybe I can find someone to help,"

"Frustrating, I can imagine. But in a sense, it's timeless, so nobody's up to date." It made sense to Kitty, at least. She shrugged, "It might be a good idea, although I'm afraid I can't help you much, I spend so much time between different places, I normally have food provided."

"I suppose you're right," Marguerite smiled perfering her way of thinking about it. "Oh? What is it you do then, to keep busy?" Marguerite had been so preoccupid she had totally forgotten to ask Kit about herself.

"Mainly, I just like lazing around in the sunshine, smoking and reading the odd book. It's relaxing more than anything." She'd vaguely started to treat it like an odd holiday, "Although Una and myself were thinking of producing some sort of variety show. Which is only an idea at the moment, but you're most welcome to join in."

"That sound simply delightful, I must admit," she had always enjoyed the gardens at her and Percy's Richmond home. "Oh? A variety show? That sounds marvelous! Before I married Percy I acted myself, perhaps it would be a fun distraction. Do let me know if I can help in anyway,"

"It is wonderful, but I do miss acting." Kitty also missed the ability to be a man on stage, but not have to pretend for the rest of the time. More accurately, she missed the ability to stop acting. "I'm sure we will, we need as many people with that kind of talent as possible. Um...what kind of acting?"

"A fellow performer then?" Marguerite asked with a smile. It was always a treat to meet a fellow actor. "Drama, mostly,"

"Did I, or Percy, not mention it? Yes, yes." Kitty smiled at her politely, "Ah, I see. I do more singing and acting kind of affairs."

"No, it must have slipped your mind. Percy and I haven't spoken since I arrived, actually," Marguerite confessed, moving around a spec of dirt on the table with her finger. "Oh how wonderful! I has been such a long time since I've done anything, it will be a joy to get back into it!"

"Oh." Well, that was a little awkward, "Apologies." Kitty smiled at her, though, "I was hoping we'd find some other people, as I miss it myself, and I only stopped once I got here."

"No need, really," Marguerite insisted. "I think you'll manage. And I'd be more than happy to seek some people out myself,"

"It would be most helpful, as I'm not sure who else there is." She shrugged, "If nothing else, I can stick up a notice on the bulletin board. Have to talk to Una, though, I keep forgetting."
