Somewhere in Toon Town - Dusk

Elle was bored again. She hadn't seen Spike in ages, so she decided she was going to go look for him.

She was unaware of any imminent threat that might be lurking, despite Cayce's recent warning about someone looking for her.

[post is open, but first thread is for Sylar & Elle (and the Mickey cops) only. read here for more info.]

The Master heard the disturbance outside. Hard not to, as it was sort of happening in his backyard. A few seconds later he was out the door, assuming that the Doctor had pissed off a duck or something.

Ah, that charming girl. She seemed to be having it out with another fellow of exceptional... talents.

Interesting.

The Master stood by at a safe(ish) distance and ate jelly babies, smiling to himself and enjoying the show.

The Doctor didn’t need to hear the commotion in order to be drawn to the scene; as was typical for him, he managed to already be right by where all the action was taking place. At first his natural inclination was to get – in the way– involved, but, well, he’d never seen anything quite like… and then neither one really seemed to be winning so…

He decided he’d leave well enough alone for once –at least until it seemed like someone was getting the upper hand over the other– and stood watching, mouth agape. After a while he noticed the Master nearby, and when the electricity went out he wandered over closer to the other Time Lord.

[identity profile] hear-the-drums.livejournal.com 2008-04-20 09:12 pm (UTC)(link)
The Master didn't look over in the Doctor's direction as he approached. He stayed fixated on the fight.

And then finally said, "If you could have any superpower, what would it be?"

[identity profile] a-lonely-god.livejournal.com 2008-04-21 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
“Oh, I always liked that “phasing” ability, like the girl from the X-Men who could walk through walls and stuff,” the Doctor said idly. “I forget the comic book science of it, something about being able to pass her atoms in between the spaces between the atoms of whatever she was going through… but yeah, I just thought it would be fun to be able to walk through walls. Or just stick your head through and have a look. Oooh, that look like it hurt,” he added, as the girl finally got in a good shot and electrocuted the ice man.

[identity profile] hear-the-drums.livejournal.com 2008-04-21 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
He nodded as though he'd expected as much. "I wouldn't mind telekinesis." Really, there was no end to the damage he could inflict with something like that, in combination with his own telepathic abilities.

He didn't seem to care much either way about the injuries, although he did give a laugh at the sight of that sad boy getting electrocuted.

[identity profile] a-lonely-god.livejournal.com 2008-04-21 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
“‘Course you wouldn’t,” the Doctor answered, distractedly. “Hang on, she’s… what the hell is he-?” He didn’t bother to finish the sentence but instead took off at a run towards the two combatants.

He’d gone about a half-dozen steps when the two of them were suddenly hoisted into the air and whirled off over the Doctor’s head in the direction of Sleeping Beauty’s castle. He skidded to a stop as they went by, staring upwards, mouth agape.

[identity profile] hear-the-drums.livejournal.com 2008-04-21 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
They were in the air.

They were in the air and being moved.

They were in the air and being moved, seemingly without their permission.

Huh.

He still wasn't looking at the Doctor as he spoke. "Any idea why...?"

[identity profile] a-lonely-god.livejournal.com 2008-04-21 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
The Doctor wasn’t listening.

Instead he watched the two go for a few moments, and then took off after them, still staring upwards, coat flapping behind him. It would be a miracle if he managed to follow them all the way to… wherever they ended up without colliding with something in the darkness.

[identity profile] hear-the-drums.livejournal.com 2008-04-21 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
Well, the Master certainly wasn't going to lose them. He wanted to know what the hell was going on. But he wasn't going to run at breakneck speed like that. Chasing after the Doctor was out of the question.

No matter how vehemently his coat flapped.

So that Master set off at his own pace in same the direction that the two had been carried off in.

[identity profile] a-lonely-god.livejournal.com 2008-04-21 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
He found the Doctor sitting on a bench by the castle moat, which the two combatants were just wading out of, one leg drawn up and rubbing his shin absently as he… well, he wasn’t eavesdropping, exactly, he was just…

All right, he was eavesdropping.

[identity profile] hear-the-drums.livejournal.com 2008-04-21 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
"Very subtle," the Master said on approach, stepping up behind the bench. "Anything interesting to be heard so far?"

[identity profile] a-lonely-god.livejournal.com 2008-04-21 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
“Their world sounds complicated,” the Doctor murmured. “Something about a company that regulates people like them. She works for it, he’s in their files. He’s dangerous. She’s…” he shook his head. “He asked if she wanted to go get ice cream and she said yes. Easy as that. Did she miss the part where he tried to cut her head open?”

[identity profile] hear-the-drums.livejournal.com 2008-04-21 03:08 am (UTC)(link)
"Probably not," the Master guessed. "She's not quite right, poor thing. Or at least, I imagine that's how most people interpret it."

He tried hard not to smile. It was always so amusing knowing something the Doctor couldn't at least reason out for himself.

[identity profile] a-lonely-god.livejournal.com 2008-04-21 03:13 am (UTC)(link)
“She said this place was the best thing that could have happened to her, because her father isn’t here,” the Doctor continued, more to himself than the Master. “That she was kept away from the public because she was ‘too dangerous’.”

Poor thing indeed, although of course the Master’s comment was less than honestly sympathetic. The Doctor shot him a suspicious glance as the two started to wander away. “Have you met her, then?”

[identity profile] hear-the-drums.livejournal.com 2008-04-21 03:41 am (UTC)(link)
"Mm," the Master affirmed, watching as the two young people continued on, oblivious to their surroundings or their company. "It's not as if I don't have experience with the type. Daddy complex and a sheltered childhood. This is probably the most time she's ever been able to spend out in the sun, the dear girl."

He didn't even have to try for sarcasm here. The Doctor certainly knew better.

[identity profile] a-lonely-god.livejournal.com 2008-04-21 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
The Doctor huffed and made the same affirmative noise back at the Master. His body shifted as though he would have liked to follow them, but he didn’t.

“Wonder how long it’ll take the power to come back on.”

[identity profile] hear-the-drums.livejournal.com 2008-04-21 04:17 am (UTC)(link)
"Faster it does, the more it speaks for whatever is running things around here." That went without saying, of course, but stating the obvious did make people feel more in control of their surroundings.

Not that he needed that.

[identity profile] a-lonely-god.livejournal.com 2008-04-21 04:22 am (UTC)(link)
“Wish it’d let us do it,” the Doctor groused.

[identity profile] hear-the-drums.livejournal.com 2008-04-21 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
"You're bored," the Master stated for him. "You're not cracking, are you, because that will make my life far too easy."

[identity profile] a-lonely-god.livejournal.com 2008-04-21 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
“No I’m not cracking.” The Doctor sounded vaguely insulted. It wasn’t really even that he was bored –he was bored, quite bored, in fact– as he was feeling the need to be of use, somehow. –and possibly also the need to impress someone with said usefulness– Leave it to the damn park not only to imprison them and take away their sense of purpose but to solve even life’s little, ordinary problems like spilt tea or overloaded electrical circuits.

He stretched his leg out, rotating his foot before setting it down on the ground again and resting his elbows on the back of the bench. He glanced up at the Master.

“Are you just going to stand there and loom over my shoulder?”

[identity profile] hear-the-drums.livejournal.com 2008-04-21 04:47 am (UTC)(link)
"Why, is it making you uncomfortable? Is your precarious hold on sanity slipping with every moment I linger behind you?"

He certainly wasn't bored. At all.

[identity profile] a-lonely-god.livejournal.com 2008-04-21 04:52 am (UTC)(link)
“Yes,” the Doctor told him blandly, sinking down a little further on the bench. “In fact I think I’m developing a twitch.”

[identity profile] hear-the-drums.livejournal.com 2008-04-21 04:54 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, he did so like it when the Doctor humored him. "Tell you what. Once I can see the twitch I'll move."

[identity profile] a-lonely-god.livejournal.com 2008-04-21 05:09 am (UTC)(link)
The Doctor snorted.

“It’s a fair cop.” He clicked his tongue twice against the roof of his mouth and tried to think of something interesting to say.

[identity profile] hear-the-drums.livejournal.com 2008-04-21 05:20 am (UTC)(link)
It seemed so unlikely that two Time Lords with so many years of history and experience between them could think of nothing to say.

Of course, there were all sorts of things to talk about. But that didn't mean they would ever get discussed. –not anymore

So the Master didn't attempt to make the situation any more comfortable.
