Open RP -- Rukia skips rocks

Rukia didn't often go down to the river except when she needed to bathe, but today was an exception. The little shinigami was desperately bored, and she'd ultimately taken to skipping rocks on the water's surface, and watching the ducks scatter when one got too close (she actually tried not to aim for the ducks and for the most part she succeeded, but occasionally, one went astray).

What was frustrating was the way some rocks skipped gracefully across the water, some skipped one or two times and then stopped and some fell into the water with a plunk almost as soon as they left her hand. Rukia was sure there had to be a trick to it. She just wished she knew what...

((Anyone who wants to come talk to her, give her pointers, feed the ducks, etc., is welcome. :D))

"In this place? Nothing stays broken. What sort of trouble is there to get into?"

"It's not for lack of trying." Pippi grinned.

"Oh, really?" Rukia couldn't fight back a smile. "And just what have you been trying, Pippi?"

Pippi talked about going "thing finding" with Leon and trying to help Katou learn how to fly both still being played.

"And then I tried digging a tunnel so we could all leave but I can't dig fast enough before it fixes itself..."

"I... I see," murmured Rukia, trying to take in everything the child was telling her. "But you haven't hit cement? Or anything rubbery?"

"Wull obviously cement is the first thing I hit." Pippi said patting the ground she's sitting on. "I hit it very hard."

"But when you kept going... did you run into more cement, under the dirt?"

"I ran into something ja." Pippi nodded. "And I pulled myself out to get something to punch through it and the hole filled back in... It did that several times and was very bothersome. I mean, even if we couldn't get out, it was a perfectly good hole."

"I see," Rukia repeated, with a thoughtful expression. "That is very odd. I wish I could say it's unusual, but it doesn't seem to be."

"I suppose it's been tried before huh?"

"You could say that. A while ago, long before you came here, there was an expedition to dig out of the park. It didn't go well, though." Rukia sighed.

"... as in less well then what I just described?"

"As in about the same," said Rukia wryly.

"Well at least I know it's not just me." Pippi mused. "Have you tried anything yourself?"

"I was involved in the digging-out expedition," Rukia explained. "And I was about to try running out into the void until someone stopped me."

"I hear you get dizzy and fall down... You'd need a rope attached to you."

Rukia heaved a sigh. She made another attempt at skipping a rock. This time, it skipped twice before going under. "A rope?" she asked Pippi with a smile. "You think that would help?"

"Well... at the very least it would keep whoever was trying to run out there from getting stuck. Because if you get dizzy and fall over... How will you get back? So if you have a rope or something attached to you, you could get pulled back out by somebody if you weren't able to make it beyond... Um... whatever that all is out there."

"Good point," said Rukia. Her tone was wry, but she really did enjoy Pippi's logic. "I'm not sure whatever's out there ever ends, though."

"Oh... But we don't know for sure?"

"Nobody knows for sure, no. It would be hard to find out."

"... This is a very strange place."
