"An experiment?" Daniel’s voice goes a bit panicky again. There is something about having his own fears voiced by another that makes them more alarming. “An experiment,” he says again, in a more neutral tone. “So, some powerful, advanced being just... just picked us up and deposited us here for its own amusement. Or study. Or whatever.” He’s vaguely aware that his tone is bitter and slightly angry- it wouldn’t be the first time something like this has happened. He’s tired of being used.

“Has anyone tried to figure out what might make all of us prime candidates for an experiment… some trait or history that we all have in common, or some sort of pattern to the types of people who are brought here?”

He puts his glasses back on and looks at John, relaxing a bit at his question.

“Both,” he says, managing a very small smile. “She’s also a Captain in the U.S. Airforce and a really brilliant astrophysicist. If she were here she’d already have half a dozen theories about theoretical stuff like wormholes, time-travel, alternate dimensions…”

None of which are so very theoretical anymore, of course, at least for those with very high clearance with the United States Government.
