Pearl slept all afternoon and through the night, not waking until the sun came in through the window the next morning. Dazed and in unfamiliar surroundings, it took a while to remember where she was, and when she did, she didn't quite know how she'd gotten into the too soft bed that was so high off the ground. Eventually she struggled out of it and opened the door.

"Miss Susan?" she asked quietly, not wanting to wake anyone.
